Spitballing here (Thanks Bammer!) but if the campaign was compromised, wouldn't that also include Pence? I mean if this happened, he benefitted as much as Trump did. But then I guess it comes down to legal wordings and he could just claim ignorance, right? I mean about this specifically, not his usual general ignorance.

I would imagine the Vice President (or VP-elect) is there mostly in part so that he/she can claim plausible deniability for a lot of things.

In the unlikely event that Trump is removed, this will probably be the Democratic line, I think (i.e., Pence is just as compromised, let's hold up his nominations, appointments, agenda, etc.).
