Don Winslow is wrong; all four have been widely reported.
All four are false. I’ll tackle this later, but the light lift is to just look at the market closing yesterday. Did it crash?

In the face of a trade war with America’s neighbors, Trump blinked. This sign of weakness on his part should surprise no one.

1. Trump backed down from fights with Canada and Mexico when they fought back.
Trump proposed tariffs multiple times during his 2024 campaign, just as he did in his first term, so Mexico and Canada knew this was coming. The concession they made yesterday did not eliminate the tariff threat. As you can see from both Trudeau's and Sheinbaum-Pardo's tweets, the implementation of the tariffs is suspend by 30 days. Definitionally, negotiations are give and take. In other words, they have been given a grace period to take on their commitments. That's how negotiations work. We will see in 30 days if Trump was serious or not, but for now nothing has changed.

2. Trump got nothing for it.
More on the origin of the Canadian border framework in #4 below, but you can clearly see the words 'In addition' in Jussie T's tweet:
What that means is that these are supplementing ("adding to") the plan from December. These are net-new commitments to address the border concerns.

All the concessions from Mexico are new, more on that in #4 as well.

3. The stock market crashed.
Here's the tracker for the Dow:

https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/%5EDJI/

As you can see, the 'crash' yesterday (~ -2% at open) was so significant that failed to erase the last two weeks of gains. In fact it wasnt even the biggest one day drop in the last two weeks. It was back up to baseline by midday. So, not a crash, barely normal intraday variance.

4. Trump announces gains from Mexico+ Canada that were already there or happened under Biden.

Canada first:

In December of last year, after Trump won and as an attempt to avoid tariffs, Canada proposed a significant border security increase as describe here in this Retuers article from December 17, 2024. It was not already there, not done to protect the border, not done to support Biden. It was explicitly done to avoid Trump's threat of tariffs:

Canada pledges beefed-up border, immigration restrictions to appease Trump: https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/ ... 024-12-17/

Key word being "proposed". It was neither enacted nor funded. The threat of the tariffs now is to get the Canadian government back in session to actually do this. Not talk about it, but actually implement it.

Mexico:

The idea that it was 'already there' is based on previous agreements between Mexico and the US under both Trump and Biden. Here's a Newsweek article on how Trump used the tariff threat in 2019 to get Mexican troops to act against immigration in general, not border specific:

Mexico Will Use National Guard To Apprehend Migrants As Part of Deal To Avoid U.S. Tariffs: https://www.newsweek.com/mexico-will-us ... fs-1442896

The troops were there temporarily. So they are no longer there and were not there by the time the Biden admin negotiated a second deployment in 2021:

Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala deploy troops to lower migration: https://apnews.com/article/guatemala-ho ... 207d34c8cc

The troops were there temporarily. So they are no longer there and were not there by the time Trump ran again in 2024. Thus it's fair to say the deal Trump got from the tariff's threat is similar to what he had in the past with Mexico under their previous administration, but does in fact involve new troops deployments along the southern border. Saying otherwise is like saying the Chiefs didn't win the Super Bowl last year because they had already won it the year before.

He really needs to drop stuff like "Jussie T" and "Proggies"

Those types of phrases really undermine his "only adult in the room" persona.

Would love to know how any of this and what it all entails is good for Americans in any sense whatsoever?

More than 8,000 web pages across more than a dozen U.S. government websites have been taken down since Friday afternoon, a NYT analysis found.

The purges have removed info about vaccines, veterans' care, hate crimes, and scientific research, among many other topics.

This sharp shift to "marriages" and "procreation" is super unsettling. And the right should be just as afraid of it as my pickled, proggled, low IQ brain.

Zelensky now offering Trump US mining rights in Ukraine for continued military support against Russia.
That’s exactly why Putin wanted Ukraine in the first fuckin place. Ukraine is loaded with everything from gas to uranium to loads of the rare minerals. That was the fucking point of it all in the first place. Zelensky is about to get rolled over big time. It was all for nothing if he goes for it and agrees.
