I was in the no leak club for the most part (heard mym, live LB and FD). I'm real glad I waited. I love the ritual of buying the cd on the day of release.

Based on what I heard and the bands direction, I had pretty low expectations for this one.(i like the last 2 ok, but not like the middle records.)

Ive listened all the way through once now and I am blown away. I was smiling throughout my first listen. I probably wont connect with this like the middle records either, but I think this has some staying power.

While this is in the vein of the last two, there seems to be a lot more synergy within each song and across the whole album. It seems a little over the top, but in a good way that fits the band right.

I didnt care for wrigley FD, but I am even impressed by that one on the cd, a lot more nuance (i guess)

It feels like its the "patterns" BoB talks about. Mike has a clear melody in mind and is very controlled. Which perfectly enhances a beautifully subtle song.

Even if that's true, it's not saying much.

Just had my first listen while following along with the lyrics. The only songs I think were weak lyrically were LB, which I don't mind because I like how he sings and the progression of the song, and Pendulum which I love nonetheless. I tried to see what sucks so bad about LTRP and I can't figure it out. I like the lyrics on it too. My favorite thing on the album might be the vocals on Yellow Moon. FD is the low point for me, fits into a Vedder solo show more than on this album. Don't hate it though. Stick me in the camp that really likes this thing. I love being a curmudgeon and complaining, but I feel in all honestly like any complaints from me would be nitpicking. Haven't liked a new release this much off the bat since Yield.

It's still at the bottom of the pile but I am warming to this album.

LTRP/SBM/FD are still horrible. They shouldn't be on here. To some degree I feel the same way about SW. It gets a lot of praise but Pendulum doesn't do much for me (although I don't hate it).

Getaway/Sirens/Yellow Moon still kings.

I like Father's Son, Infallible and LB much more than I did initially.

some thoughts

you could throw MYM straight into Vitalogy amongst whipping, STBC etc and it wouldn't seem out of place (ignoring eds aged voice). It's great they can still put out this kind of stuff 20 years later

Yellow Moon has fantastic vocals and melody (perhaps the best in a decade), and a couple great Solos by Mike that could be extended live

LB 'reaches' higher than unthought known and ATW did, but suffers from poor lyrics in some places (esp chorus)

MFS is badass because it has 2 basses

Infallible musically sounds a bit like a QOTSA song

SBM is a waste of cd space imo, they should have done something with the 'other' Jeff song that has the same tuning as LTRP that didn't make this album

as a guitarist I must say overall the guitar tones on the album aren't the best. MYM is a standout as is Sirens and Yellow Moon, but the tones aren't to my liking on the other tracks.

I just got a hankering to spin some Otis Redding today. Something had to get thrown out to make room, so LB got the cut.

That didn't take long at all.

Fuck the harmonies sit so much nicer in the mix on Avocado than on Backspacer and Lightning Bolt

This album is still great and keeps getting better. Firmly entrenched at no. 4 in my list behind Vitalogy, Ten and Vs.
