i can't take my eyes off this show when i watch it but when i read reviews of each episode my mind is blown by how much I missed. Its a credit to the show but its also super depressing and overwhelming. I dont think i enjoy the show as much as I would if i have read the books. I come in here and try to keep up but i am so fucking inadequate.

Pretty much. Except he wasn't creepy, he actually had a lot of substance behind it. Just not very good at blocking warhammers apparently.

Ser Barristan Selmy, who served three kings, thought that Rhaegar would have been better then any of them. Rhaegar was exceedingly intelligent and excelled at anything he put his mind to. He was considered to be a talented musician and skilled knight. The prince was well-loved by the people, and Rhaegar Frey was named in his honor. However, the crown prince was said to be quiet, private and bookish.

At the age of seventeen, Rhaegar was knighted, and from all reports grew into a highly skilled and capable fighter, always distinguishing himself well at tournaments. Cersei Lannister noted at the tournament in honor of Viserys's birth in Lannisport in 276 AC that the smallfolk cheered for Lord Tywin Lannister twice as much as for King Aerys II, but only half as loudly for Tywin as for Rhaegar. Rhaegar fought well in the tourney besting a dozen skilled knights, among them Ser Barristan Selmy and Gerion and Tygett Lannister but was defeated in the champion's tilt by his friend Arthur Dayne. He was then told to marry Elia Martell, but their relationship became increasily estranged.

He then held a tourney at Harrenhall. Most likely as an excuse to to talk to the lords of the land about removing his father (the mad king) from power. His father was informed of this by Varys, and thus attended the event. During the great tourney at Harrenhal, Rhaegar seemed unstoppable and defeated even Ser Arthur Dayne. Taking the winter rose crown for the queen of love and beauty, he revealed his interest in Lyanna Stark by passing over his wife, Princess Elia of Dorne, and setting it in Lyanna's lap.

Lyanna was recently betrothed to Robert, but they had never had a romance, it was arranged by their fathers after Ned had introduced Robert to his family. Lyanna was instead deeply suspicious that Robert would never manage to be faithful. On the other hand when she heard Rhaegar sing, she cried. Lyanna is described as fierce, like Arya, but also incredibly beautiful. Most likely she went willingly with Rhaegar. However, Robert saw it as a kidnapping, at least publically, and it initiated the uprising.
