There'd be way too much potential joy in that, so I'm out.
Experiencing pleasure is such a waste of time.
While I've been fairly active on other message boards, those have been more of an explicitly technical nature (audio, BBQ, that sort of thing). This is the only place I ever spout an opinion, and I'm not on facebook, so an honest question:

Does anyone else experience this phenomenon in which you'll post about something, all fired up like, and then a day or two later see it and think, "Eh, I don't actually feel that strongly about it"? Or is that just me?
"Last edited by tragabizanda" lol.

The Force as all powerful mystical energy that binds the universe together..or some microscopic cells in the blood that have science behind them..Creationists vs evolutionaries..

Lucas really didnt remember Yodas speech on Dagobah about the tree, the rock etc and the relationship the force has with them, when he started on about midclorians..

To be fair Yoda's Force speech basically sounds like it came out of Jimi Hendrix getting high with the Maharishi and shooting the shit.

Why would those two statements be at odds with one another? The Star Wars films are great cinema, but they're hardly clever when they go into specifics. Thankfully the Force talk is almost always super vague (see above comment), which is the best idea ever and something a trillion other sci-fantasy properties never picked up on.

Movies used to lean on "who cares why, fuck you" statements to set up an interesting premise or help build an allegorical world. Now they bury the opening scenes neck-deep in exposition, explaining shit you couldn't care less about, and save the "who cares why, fuck you" moment for the top of the film, when its impact is the most disappointing. They basically treat them as a Get Out of Jail Free cards, when the screenwriter isn't clever enough to actually write a solution to the big finish.

"The Force is there; who cares why, fuck you" was great for utilizing belief, history, and mysticism as storytelling tools. We learn a ton about the universe these characters are in, and who they are, through each person's reactions to or conversations about The Force. It creates a link between the concrete struggle and a deeper, religion-sized good vs evil conflict. Part of why the attempt to explain it in the prequels pissed us off so badly is that it negated a lot of that bond. Suddenly, we were being told that the Force was just a biological happenstance. It was like walking into a creationist church and showing a movie on evolution, narrated by a cgi Roger Rabbit.

So the Force speech is as nonsensically vague as any bleary eyed attempt to discuss the messianic nature of Tommy. But thank god for that.

"Do or do not; there is no try" is just about the biggest bullshit statement from a movie ever to be mass adopted as clever, though.
