Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
TFA was still being worked on the day before release.
Rian is finished 3 months out and not one peep of any difficulty.
I think the delicious irony of this will be that the last Jedi will cause total uproar in the fanbase.

As long as it has a unique artistic vision I think I'll be fine with it.dimejinky99 wrote:TFA was still being worked on the day before release.

There have been multiple sources that claim to have seen footage who expect that there will be a lot of people screaming, "WAIT, THAT'S NOT STAR WARS!" Apparently, Rian's done a lot of different things.stip wrote:why do people think this is going to alienate fans?

Dime will hate it, love it, hate it, call it awful, wish for something as good as rogue one, then call it the best movie ever, then comfortable fall into driving himself crazy waiting for Episode 9 but not before hating it a few more times.VinylGuy wrote:there is no way in earth that this movie is going to alienate fans..cmon, its the safest brand in earth.

It wasn't that long ago that Star Wars was a joke brand. People were singing "George Lucas raped our childhood." There are several documentaries about how hated Lucas and the Star Wars brand was back in he late 90s/early 00s.
The worst aspect of the Star Wars fandom is how easy it is to piss them off. The possibility of backlash is massive here.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
I think Dime is not a fanboi. He clearly loves SW, but he know his shit. He knows when something is awful and when something is alright.
I would say this new movie might be different in some things, but there is no way its going to be a departure from SW. Its going to be pretty much what we expect.

I tend to think you're probably more right than wrong, yeah. I'm just talking about rumors/talk I've seen across the internet. And I think this fan-base (in general) is fragile/picky enough that even small risks could potentially cause big waves.

I just want a good movie. If it's as "safe" as TFA but just as entertaining with good character development, I'm gonna love the holy hell out of it.

I want a good movie too. I dont want another safe sequel like TFA i want something more, and im guessing ill have that with Rian on board. At the same time im not dying to see it...maybe because of the marketing, im not sure..but i wanted to see It more than anything and now im dying to see Blade Runner 2049 more than this movie.durdencommatyler wrote:I just want a good movie. The greatest gift Rian could give us is turn this universe and plot so upside down and inside out in a manner that makes it impossible for JJ to create a safe, predictable conclusion.durdencommatyler wrote:There have been multiple sources that claim to have seen footage who expect that there will be a lot of people screaming, "WAIT, THAT'S NOT STAR WARS!"
