People drink/hang out until the last minute. Would cause a huge congestion problem if everyone is cramming into these stadiums at the same time. This spreads it out and gives some concession money to the venue.
Again, I agree and that’s why they come out later than the time on the ticket. But don’t outright lie that this time they’re starting on time.

It really isn’t that big of a deal.

I'm sorry they hurt you.

Mjd, it's either a big enough deal that you will stop going to shows, or it isn't. If it isn't, there's no use getting upset over it. It's always been this way with most acts, not just Pearl jam. I went to a concert last Saturday, the ticket said show time 9 pm, they didn't come on until after 10.

A show starting at the time the ticket says is like unheard of. I don’t understand how this is being made into a thing.

Did they tweet out that they would be starting on time so please be there early?

And again Pearl Jam came out 90 minutes late. That’s a bit much.

I’ll keep going to shows but I’m not coming early.

The poor pit is fooled telling everybody to get there on time because PJ has to delay the show when nobody is in their seat. This proves that’s BS they delay the show just because they don’t care, whether you’re there or not.

But the joke is on Fenway because again next time they try to get people to come early nobody will listen

I feel like this energy would be better fed into a discussion of the venues they're playing. Just go back to the Fleetcenter and you can play until 11:30--problem solved!

again this isn’t about the time necessarily. It’s about A. 90 minutes late being a bit excessive even for a rock concert and B. Fenway going out of their way to say the band would be taking the stage at 630 in Twitter and to make sure you were there.

Most people know the show won’t start at the time on the ticket so don’t make sure to get there early and likely aren’t upset at those concerts. In this case they were led to believe the show would be starting close to on time.

Honestly I never expected before 730 though I thought maybe 7 certainly not 630. But with those tweets I also never would have guessed 8.

Isn't that basically what happened?

It was crammed and congested, but just way in advance of the show actually starting. I doubt there was any line from 7:15-8:00. The congestion was still in the concourse because people who had been in their seats for a while needed to use the restrooms or re-beer.

It's no big deal, and it didn't really bother me. I know there's no perfect way to do these things at venues that weren't designed for concerts, and when there are no opening acts.

Now with PJ shows at the venue formerly known as Great Woods (which has it's own big obvious problems), entry was more spread out because people go in when doors open, or when the opener is playing, or right before PJ, or even a few songs in.

You missed out on 3 songs they play all the time because of this vile and inconsiderate delay. Chill out my man.

No chance. Ed's not a hockey fan. They only play baseball stadiums now.

They like basketball though. It's still on the table!

Yeah, I’m not complaining, but when you hear the ‘hurry up’ in the performance it is frustrating knowing the band and audience could have had a better time should they have started earlier.

The extra time would have just been used with ed rambling and more covers. Consider yourself lucky.

next tour!

i'm sure they are aware that the amount of people bitching that they started too soon, and they were waiting in line to get in when they started, far outweighs the amount of people bitching that they started too late.

Was there anyone waiting in line to get in when they started? Fenway looked jammed full by 7:30 on Sunday.

Well, wherever you are, I think there's no way the tiny amount of bitching (if it exists at all) from the very small minority of people who were in line when they started "far outweighs" the bitching that they started too late.

If congestion is a constant issue, can't some of that be solved with an opening act? Some people will filter in early to see the opener, others will wait closer to PJ's set. I'd be curious to see what kind of complaining would be taking place if there was an opener from 6:30-7:15 and then PJ at 8.
