Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
It's crazy how obsessed some of us (PJ fans) are about "cool". PJ doing things to look cool. Fans thinking they must've done this or that to look cool. Fans loving songs to look cool. Fans hating on songs to look cool.
"Oh, but that's so not cool".
"Oh, they've always been faking their cool"
"All that cool was just an attempt to please Cobain".
"That cool must've come from [insert: Beth, Dave A, Jack Irons or whoever]".
"Rawk songs are so uncool"
"Ew that's too saccarine/soft/mellow" (all those things being uncool of course)
"Eh they were never cool to start with"
It probably says more about us than it does about the band lol.

I think people just have different tastes. I don't like LB because I don't like it, not because I think not liking it will make anyone think I'm cool.

You're just saying that so Dev will think you're cool.

It's been plaguing PJ fans ever since Nirvana was declared the "cool" band. I'm the first to admit that I've been affected by it numerous times before.JuanHamm wrote:I guess Ehhhh was right after all

Yeah, I usually just lurk. Don't know what compelled me to post. I haven't even listened to any of those Earthlings songs. Not even Flag day for that matter.VinylGuy wrote:is Ehhhh a new board member? She is making a big statement.

well, Flag Day is a minor release maybe, but its full of good moments. Specially Olivia's song and Cat Power's ones. Long Way has been growing on me all this time, and i loved that live video. Its a very catchy and cool song.Ehhhh wrote:Yeah, I usually just lurk. Don't know what compelled me to post. I haven't even listened to any of those Earthlings songs. So true. Anytime my PJ fandom comes up in conversation I'm immediately on guard for "Pearl Jam sucks, Nirvana was cool." I can't be baited by it any longer, but I'm always expecting someone to try.Ehhhh wrote:It's been plaguing PJ fans ever since Nirvana was declared the "cool" band. Someday Pearl Jam will truly be cool to listen to, and we'll all be way ahead of the game.

You're going to need a time machine to get to the time Pearl Jam were cool.Leatherhead wrote:Someday Pearl Jam will truly be cool to listen to, and we'll all be way ahead of the game.

I guess I was hoping people would take that as the tongue in cheek post it was meant to be, not a criticismwarehouse wrote:yeah, that's a terrible take. he's had the freedom to do whatever he's wanted since ten exploded and they all became rich. and if he was only interested in selling records they would have made more videos or released 'black' as a single. he's just a different dude now, his kids are practically adults.Ehhhh wrote:With all due respect but that's harsh. Also ridiculous on every level possible.Ms Harmless wrote:at this point I'm convinced that Ed was always a giant cheeseball who hid behind "grunge" and other "cool" trends to sell his records, with a plan to do exactly this old man stuff when he got enough freedom to do what he really wantedBurtReynolds wrote:In some alternate timeline he went solo after Vitalogy. I wonder what that sounds like.
so, it sounds the same or possibly worse
the tl;dr is that Ed always did whatever he wanted and still is, and I don't think he's a drastically different person now
