No, but someone did mention that he’s singing about cumming.

And about time, too.

I'm not sure exactly how to put this, but I really like the way a lot of parts in the song seem to go on longer than you expect, particularly Eddie's phrasing(?) and the outro. I keep expecting something to stop and it just keeps going and I love it. Oh and Eddie's grunt at the end is awesome.
The “fuck off” at the end is particularly delightful.
haha it really is

I also like the callback to The Fixer at the beginning.

This song is not embarrassing…the hyperbole from the song haters is strong with this one. I can see not liking or even hating this tune but it’s nowhere near the level of Ole or Can’t Deny Me…

Again, what is embarrassing? Are you embarrassed because you are listening to something you think is beneath you? Are you embarrassed on behalf of Pearl Jam? I don't think they've signed on to you being their representative.
Exhibit a. You go after people who speak negatively. Nobody is going after you for loving it.
I'm not going after anyone. I'm just trying to understand what is embarrassing.
The song. It sounds like a bad green day/offspring punk pop song. Ed’s delivery, especially at the end. The tone of Mikes guitar in the solo. The goofy bass intro. It sounds like a song a bunch of punk pop teenagers would write, not 60 year old men. It would fit perfectly in the game crazy taxi if you remember that.

I'll put it this way:

This is as if Real Madrid, the best team in the history of soccer, is content with finishing 15th in the league when the team has always been 1st.

And they have always demanded those good results from themselves, too.

I demand greatness from my favourite band ever, or at least 'goodness'.

DeeDee wrote:Seriously, at what point do guys like them, who have created masterpieces like Vs, Superunknown or Temple of the dog, think that this song is worthy of their legacy to release it as a single?

I find it hard to believe.

I like the mini bridge before the solo, Olé and Can't deny me were even worst, though.
I think it has a chance to go down as one of the most bizarre single choices from them. I can only think of a few explanations for it:

1) They think the short length is a major selling point for radio airplay (possibly true, but I think the song itself is still an issue)
2) Someone influential like Ed just loves this song and he lacks awareness that it very likely won't have broad appeal.
3) They don't have any better good options on the album (seems unlikely).

It's really close, but those two were too bad to be true.

This is Supersonic 15 years later, but without the surprise element and that fresh feeling.

the surprise element / fresh feeling that comes up when you've eaten too much Chinese food and you know you're gonna retch

Running (working lyrics)

Yes or No

You got me running
got me running
but the (something) never ends

you got me running
or else I'm done in

you got me coming as you're going
in the cage that never ends
you got me running
yeah the second coming

contain us
contain us

lost in the tunnel
and the tunnel aint no fun now
I hope you know the shit your pushing

control us
control us

lost in the tunnel
and the tunnel's getting funneled
like the sewage in the plumbing
cuz we left the fucking water running

yes or no

got me diving
got me diving
got me deep I've hit the bens
when I'm sewn in I'm too late coming

got me running
got me running
like the (something) that never ends
I'm feeling done in
it's rather stunning

contain us
contain us

lost in the tunnel
and the tunnel aint no fun now
I hope you know the shit your pushing

control us
control us

lost in the tunnel
and the tunnel's getting funneled
like the sewage in the plumbing
cuz we left the fucking water running

we're cleared for
for liftoff
I close my eyes
take off
living in the shadows
crossing my fingers
a date with the gallows
and a reprieve's not looking likely

(ed's rant---not gonna try)
you got me runnning (x4)
oh please
you are the tunnel
I am unstable
fuck off
off

No, they are not.

And they are very good at what they do, just like PJ.

All of the above are way better than Can't deny me.
