In my experience that usually means the record will get real old real fast. Those ones never stand up to time.
I haven't heard this album yet, but I don't buy that argument at all.

New here? Go to the old board and look at the first twenty or so pages of each of the last three PJ releases.
Nah, I'd rather not. But, come on, now. That's a ridiculously small sample size of music & listeners.

And, I also don't recall many people here or anywhere else regarding any of those albums right off the bat as the best PJ's done - as it seems a lot of people are saying about this QOTSA one.

I'd give it a 4 or a 4.5. If that makes me some kind of asshole, then fuck you and your kin.

Hey, I'm liking turning numbers. The slower ones are a bit too much the same though, for now. I'm hoping this will grow on me. The nationals new one is a big disappointment.

Not sure what song I like best yet. Or where this fits in their pantheon. But so far, overall, I'm thinkin'

My initial first impression of FF is that it's way better than most of you are giving it credit for... And the full version of IAM is truly great. Might have to go with that one as my fav... I also love the ending part of the title track as well. Really wraps the album up nicely. I'm not hearing any weakness whatsoever, or let-down moment anywhere throughout, which is always a good sign. Except for maybe 'Ocean' veering a slight bit too close to 'Broken Box', in the beginning, and only very slightly...

Pretty happy overall, I'd have to say!

Man, you know what my favorite song from Era Vulgaris was? It would actually be 'Christian Brothers' the Elliott Smith cover tune from the Era Vulgaris extra's disc, which is one of their best songs, imho. I think that's kind of saying something in regards to how this new album measures up though, for me. I did like 'I'm Designer' quite a bit off of Era proper though...

I partied with this album last night, and have since listened to it several more times this morning...

My updated view of it is that I might have to agree that it could very well be their best album. I'm not saying that lightly either.

There are so many subtly good parts, and as a whole it just plays ridiculously well start to finish, with nary a blemish in between.

In the end, I feel it's just a great great album from these guys, even better than I was hoping for or expecting.

I'm now deleting it from my computer, until I receive my pristine version of it next month. :)

Ok. I tried. Clever bastards this band. Pitching testosterone fuelled pap at lads of a certain age to enable those Lads to feel like their still 'with it'. Emo music for the middle aged crowd. Full fat crap.
Hence the circle jerk over it.
Not as mind numbingly boring as the new national record, some good melody which is never full explored but mostly, the same one trick pony BS we've come to expect from this band. Charlatans? Not exactly. But nothing new or exciting at any point either.

Have at it.

Sorry the National was such a let down for ya.

Run along now...
