Given to Fly was one of the most powerful tracks up to that point. I remember when it was released. Thanksgiving time 1997. I just got my drivers license and Iit came on while I was cruising around. last night's post from me was a bit messy, granted i had a good sixer in me BUT that does not detract my statement. S/T is one offer the deepest albums the boys have done. Only problem with it, is that its on the political side and over produced. It trumps its predecessor beyond words. I was around for the PJ fame game. S/T is one bad ass album from top to bottom that could have been released in 1996!

From track 1-4 it doesn't let up track 5 slows down to a YIELD-ISH note. Track 6 is one of the best album ballads in years. Track 7, AMAZING track
Track 8 is filler. ..9 strong and uplifting. 10 filler. Then you have IMO the best 3track album closers they have ever done. COME BACK is ear candy and Inside Job is a type of PJ we never heard before.

My first memory of Given To Fly is how much my Dad liked it. I was just getting into Pearl Jam around 99-00 and he was already what you may call a 'casual' fan, he knew the Ten-Vitalogy stuff but also knew a lot of Yield. To this day Given to Fly and Do the Evolution are probably his two favorite Pearl Jam tracks. I remember after I became a hardcore, he'd play Given to Fly in his car all the time and today the studio version reminds me of driving around with my Dad back then sometimes.
