Some folks would still provide a pseudo justification of, " he shouldn't have fought with a cop". These people probably shouldn't vote or serve on juries, and yet they do.

I actually ran into this argument recently with a friend. She accepted the idea that there's systematic bias of all kinds in police, but then said that the worst abuses could be mitigated if people just didn't resist arrest. Unfortunately, I didn't have a good counter-argument ready on the fly.

Generally I agree with that sentiment, esp for younger aggressive males. But this was an overweight old man who could barely move. The cop could have walked up behind him and taken him down. Murder charges are appropriate.

Man, if he is acquitted for some reason I don't look forward to living here during that time

I am reminded of the testimony from the Michael Brown shooting, where officer Wilson claimed that Brown had, "the craziest look in his eyes". Maybe Mr. Scott legitimately saw a crazy look in the officers eyes and opted to run for it. Any sort of contempt of cop* is going to result in a beating at minimum, so perhaps he incorrectly figured that running couldn't make matters worse.

Not really.

Anybody who runs from the police is an idiot. They have a gun. Besides in this case he took off after some sort of scuffle. So its not as if he saw the wild eye from the cop during questioning and thought 'if I dont run for it im a dead man'

Generally, attempting to comply is your best bet. Some cops will kill you regardless, and get off on the charges. See: Kelly Thomas.

I already indicated that Mr. Scott's arithmetic was off. However, he was mostly unlucky in that this cop seems to shoot better than most.

Tazed, punt to the balls and hard kick to the head to start.. AFTER surrendering. I'm bettin they're not telling his family where he's at so they can work him over to get him to understand what he did was wrong so they were justified.

I may be coming in late here so I dont really know where you stand but did the guy really need to figure 8 times? I think Danny Glover would have just blown out his knee cap and cuffed him.

Also, I couldnt really tell where they planted something. Video was shaky

yeah it seems a lot of people think cops have the right to shoot a fleeing suspect. They don't in most cases.

that said, I dont think cops are trained to wound or shoot once or twice. You just unload on the "threat".

I wonder if the light that is being shed on cop behavior is going to impact any change.

The last time the cops came for this guy, he took his neighbor's dog hostage and blew it's head off. Explain to me why I'm supposed to feel sorry for him again?

Two wrongs don't make a right....or something.
