EJ wrote:TM is still searching for the 7/26 show. It has been running for 1.5 hours now. How is this possible?
The 7/27 show started rejecting me after 15 minutes.
the stupid system sucks. this same thing happened to me awhile back. the band tweeted that the show was sold out. my ticketmaster window was still searching 12 hours after that tweet.
"Searching... sit tight."
Yeah, I think this show was sold out in 15 minutes as well. I'm gonna let this window run all day anyway. Stupid.

XL Recordings/Beggars Group bought the Radiohead catalog from EMI/Parlophone/Warner Music. Maybe that's the end of back catalog releases that go against the band's wishes. Link.

Cool. I only have IR and KOL on vinyl so I've been waiting for years for a vinyl box set of the EMI albums to eventuate. Hopefully this catalog transfer might lead to this (and a better product than EMI would have ever put out).

I'm not sure what this means for their back catalog besides the possible vinyl box you mentioned. EMI did an OK job with the content on the collector's editions. I wonder if RH is sitting on any live shows from that period they were hesitant to put out after things soured with EMI. Did they ever say why they didn't release their '06 Bonnaroo show?

A spokesperson for XL Recordings said in a statement, "This is the first step in the transfer of Radiohead's back catalogue from Parlophone to XL. The main albums are being made available in their original form as a start, before non-LP material is reconfigured.
Perhaps this could mean a proper release of outtakes/non-album tracks?

re: Radiohead vinyl
All of Radiohead's albums were, at the time of original release, mastered differently for vinyl & CD. Great care was taken to present the material as optimally as possible for the vinyl format.
In 2004 after their contract was up with Capitol/EMI the band went off on their own. Capitol still owned the rights to all of their work up to that point. So in 2008, without the bands OK or input they went ahead with the deluxe versions/"From the Vault" vinyl reissues. As any company would given the opportunity. All of the new vinyl pressings were done hastily & basically just the digital files that had been pressed to CD originally, slapped on to wax. SO, there is a quite noticeable difference in the Capitol "From the Vault" vinyls & the original Parlophone pressings (for the US & European pressings) Even some of the deadwax matrix info can mislead one to think it's the same as the original. But they're not. This obviously only applies to albums up to Hail To The Thief. If one cared about having what the band actually intended you to hear, the original Parlophone vinyls are the only way to go. However, I have been told that the "Best Of.." vinyl box set Capitol put out does do the stuff justice in a way that the "From the Vault" versions of individual albums doesn't.
This news about the band gaining the catalog rights back is very encouraging, and I have high hopes for future reissue projects. Having the B-Sides from Bends through HTTF on vinyl & Disc 2 of In Rainbows would be amazing.

I might be doing an e-mail interview with the guy who does Radiohead's album artwork. What should I ask him?

1. When is the new album coming out?
2. Do you have it?
3. If yes to 2, can you give it to me so I can share it on the internet?
4. What is Thom Yorke's address and home phone number?
5. How much would you charge to design a logo for a Pearl Jam discussion forum?

In all seriousness, I would be curious what kind of relationship there is between the artist and the band, and what kind of requests the band has regarding the artwork. Is it just "design something cool," or do they have the artist listen to the music first and give specific directions based on how they want the art to reflect the music?

Great question; I think I'll work that in. Thanks.

I assume you're talking about Stanley Donwood?
From what I understand, he & Thom are pretty close and they work on the album art together. Thom is usually credited as "Dr. Tchock" for album art. I'd love to find out more about their artistic relationship. You should also ask him about the hours-long piece of "music" Thom created for Donwood's recent exhibition in Syndey (I think it was)
If anyone's really interested in Radiohead album art & Donwood, pick up "Dead Children Playing"
Great book filled with his work for the Radiohead albums.
