Can we just confirm you've actually seen these movies, Trag? Hoping to avoid a Cinemabon situation.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

feel the exact opposite. Once Harrison got there, everything made sense. Saw it on Imax, the score, the beauty of the images....the ending. It was pure art.

Not seen Enemy or Dune, but own Enemy on Apple Movies, and Dune arrives on HBO here on Monday. I have only seen each of the other movies once, and plan rewatches of all in the coming years.

For some reason I thought he directed Sicario 2, which is better than the first.

The first one is bogged down by the good guy cops. The second is better because it dispenses with these "relatable" characters.

That last scene is weak, but doesn't hurt the rest of the movie for me.

Prisoners
Arrival
Dune
Enemy
Sicario
Blade Runner 2049
Incendies
I checked my notes and I did not log any of these as a 'favorite' upon first viewing, though I think back fondly on at least the first five and appreciate elements of the final two

It's because Villeneuve is a lot less clever than he thinks he is, and his formal sensibility aint Malloy's bag

Do you think he's every strived to be clever in the way that Nolan has? I don't get that from him at all. I think he's much more interested in mood (all his films) and size/spatial relationships (everything from the Mexico shootouts in Sicario to the ships in Dune). When I think of annoyingly clever film makers I think Nolan, Kevin Smith, Sorkin, people like that.
Ask Malloy
