"I don't like her music or shtick, AND she's talentless dreck."

I only bring up Annie Clark because she has had a similar career trajectory AND she's a virtuoso, same as Bowie. And she's so highly influenced by Bowie and has a tremendous love for his work. She also seems to understand his reinvention and desire for genre bending. That's why she makes sense to do a Bowie tribute. She loved Bowie and sites him as her biggest inspiration.

But, you're right, KD, there's no reason why the person doing a tribute needs to be a Bowiephile or have any similarity or comparison to David Bowie. I agree. And, again, I have no issue with Gaga doing this tribute. I look forward to seeing it.

Finally, Jorge is right. That is all.

Did he pay you to say that?

Who? Jorge?

No, he hates me. He would never.

theplatypus wrote:"Speechless" is a hell of a song. I also watched her quote a Rachmaninoff piano concerto into an acoustic performance of "Paparazzi". Come on guys, you sound really silly when you say she has no talent.
Speechless is the song that sold me on her the fall/winter that Fame Monster released. I still remember the moment it clicked.

But I'm not a Gaga fan club member and I can't believe this has gone on long enough that I feel compelled to argue in her favor. This entire discussion was prompted by statements that she had no talent and didn't deserve the honor of covering Bowie songs at the Grammy's. His career was only 5 times as long as any current, relevant pop artist, so who 'deserves' this opportunity? This is asinine.

If anything, the fact that she's been given every possible advantage in life to make great music and could only come up with music on par with Nickelback is either proof of her complete lack of talent or a complete lack of desire to create anything of worth. Pick one. If she is talented, then she is talented in the way that Nickelback is talented.

If I could say anything good about her its that while she is extremely untalented, she works harder than almost anyone (which is really about 90% of success anyway.) it's just a shame what she came up with.

She's the musical equivalent of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Safe, boring, pandering, and meaningless, but apparently made by talented people (talent of building wealth and fame) with access to everything they could possibly need except desire to create something of value.

Though unlike Avril Lavigne, she probably has enough education to know how to pronounce "Bowie" so I'd rank her slightly higher.

Janelle Monae should've been picked for the tribute.

Gaga was already set for a performance on the Feb. 15 telecast, announcing that her Haus of Gaga creative team had teamed up with tech giant Intel for a special performance that would "showcase technology through creativity at the highest level.”...

Chic's Nile Rodgers, who produced Bowie's hit 1983 album “Let's Dance,” will serve as music director for the performance. "We had already booked Lady Gaga on this year's show, but when David passed — almost in a single moment — we knew we had to change direction," Ehrlich said in a statement.

Is Janelle Monae considered a big name yet? If not, then why the hell not?

Gaga was likely chosen more for her social impact than her artistic kinship. Bowie has long been considered a beacon for "outsiders," which is a legacy Gaga shares.
