What is in the new canon for Han's backstory? Wasn't he in the Imperial Academy as a youngster in the old canon?

i don't think they'll tie this in. We'll get Lando, Chewie, maybe events like the kessel run or getting the falcon (or both), working for jabba, events we know about. But it's different actors. they will minimize the attention drawn to that.

He was mixed up with some Jedi Padawans at some point.

Yeah, I fully expect this to give cutesy references to things in ANH, maybe even the cantina on Mos Eisley specifically, but not not do what R1 did and back into ANH.
