Re: RIP Chris Cornell 1964 - 2017
if i was in the band, particularly if i was matt, and ed didn't show up to chris' funeral, id want an explanation or id feel pretty weird towards ed. he not only attended johnny ramone's funeral but spoke at it so he can't have too much of an aversion to funerals. amsterdam is just a show, some things are more important. but i guess that's just my personal values.

I wholeheartedly agree. However with a private jet Ed can set up for the shows, attend the funeral and play the Amsterdam show. Smart money would have been to postpone the first shows though.WtOB? wrote:if i was in the band, particularly if i was matt, and ed didn't show up to chris' funeral, id want an explanation or id feel pretty weird towards ed. he not only attended johnny ramone's funeral but spoke at it so he can't have too much of an aversion to funerals. amsterdam is just a show, some things are more important. but i guess that's just my personal values.

From what I saw on Chris's mother in law's bonkers Twitter, Jill already told Chris's daughter he won't be attending.LetMeSleep wrote:I wholeheartedly agree. If that's true then I'm no longer a fan of Eddie Vedder. I don't care what his excuse is.

OK...
I'll be honest I'm disappointed he's being buried in Hollywood and not in Seattle.

If EV doesn't go to the funeral, he will regret it the rest of his life. Nothing else matters. It's a show of respect for a man that was absolutely instrumental in helping him become who he is and someone who he shares life long mutual friends and professional relationships. It will be inexcusable for him not to go and pay his respects. I don't care how hard or uncomfortable it is.

I hope Ed does fly back for the funeral. He'd be alright to still play the show, I'm sure.

This has been posted a few times, but Eddie is not a sociopath. He understands how emotions work, and he understands basic human dignity. The circumstances surrounding death are complicated, they cause people to do irrational things, they open wounds, and everyone processes this in a different way. This is one of the last things in the world that strangers should assume they know enough about to judge.hlniv wrote:If EV doesn't go to the funeral, he will regret it the rest of his life. You go to support the people you care about. To show them that you are there for them. I've been to awkward funerals. Faced the past and dealt with the present. It's not about your emotions, it's about others. And if some people don't want you there, there are others that do. So you go. And you face the reality of death and what it leaves behind.

Yep. You shut the fuck up and do what's right. Unlike what has happened here.

Re: RIP Chris Cornell 1964 - 2017
these are very easy judgements to make about very complicated moments, made a world away by strangers who lack almost any relevant context beyond what they would do in the imaginary scenario created in their head that may have next to no connection to the actual circumstances surrounding the event. I'm not sure there's a 'right' response to this.

Perhaps for Eddie Vedder, lead singer of pearl jam, grunge survivor, public icon. But for Eddie Vedder the human being, who knows.

Re: RIP Chris Cornell 1964 - 2017
Help me out here, is the operating theory now that there was some sort of falling out between EV + Cornell? Or that he doesn't get along with Cornell's wife? I missed that part
