Nothing disproves the existence of rational actors more than people who answer calls from unrecognized numbers.

I'm guessing it's for one of these reasons (particularly #3): http://www.notbeinggoverned.com/20-reasons-to-not-vote/

"The act of voting grants legitimacy to the idea that it’s acceptable for the majority/collective to use the coercive arm of the state to impose their will on the minority/individual using force, or threat of force, and for that reason, it is immoral to vote."

or at least that's the one that most appeals to me.

Good job Burt, that's pretty much word for word what he said.

I have an uncle by marriage who proudly states that he has never voted. He also says that since he's never voted, he will never take part in a political discussion because he hasn't earned the right.

He still has the right to complain, though ;)

Interestingly enough, there’s quite a bit of research demonstrating that low voter turnout correlates to status quo escalation within a single political “unit” (town, city, state, country, etc). In other words, if three societies have severe income inequality, and their average voting turnouts are 20, 40, and 60% respectively, the third society will see more of a reduction of that inequality then the second, which will see more of a reduction than the first. This trend remains true *no matter how people actually vote*. Whether the trend is environmental mismanagement, rights reduction, or corruption...not voting consistently has the same net result as a vote cast in support of that trend.

True enough.

And I had a longer reply but in my delirium of a lack of sleep this week I lost it just as fast as I thought of it. bah.

Cell phone. The polls tend to be "push" polls, so they probably don't care about accuracy.

It wasn't until a few years ago (I think Georgia was part of that section of the Civil Rights Act that was gutted?), i.e. they wouldn't have been able to make changes to their election laws without federal oversight. In theory it could still be ruled unconstitutional, but they can make changes in the meantime.

I ordered some yard signs to spread my anti-voting message.

I also ordered some signs mocking a city council person. The sign company cancelled the potentially libelous signs, citing production issues (it was pretty clearly satire, fwiw).

Almost certainly random, but its still kind of funny. Maybe its to my benefit thay they disallowed me from mocking such a clearly powerful local politician.

I went to visit my sister and niece today. Like me, they live in a young & progressive part of town. However, unlike me, their neighborhood had about an equal number of Cruz and Beto signs. Surprised the hell out of me. Inside the 610 loop should be a Beto stronghold.

In hindsight, I probably should have instead ordered a sign deriding all the globecucks out there.
