Very few people are voting for Joe Biden because they trust him. This has been consistently noted in polling data where Biden is behind Trump in who voters trust with the economy, but leading in expected overall votes. Naming a man would be a massive gaffe but I don't think it would have any decisive effect on the election.

Eh, I've seen the polling that clearly shows Trump ahead of Biden on the general economy. But we've all seen evidence that the public trusts Biden more on plenty of other stuff, like race relations, climate change, healthcare, etc...

Right, my point is that "trust," vaguely defined, is not the defining metric of this election, certainly not down to like, "keeping a promise about VP."

I don't know why you guys are arguing about polling on the economy. I've been told that the economy is not something voters care about. It will not be a defining issue this election.

Sorry, let me rephrase: Donald Trump cannot won the election without expanding the number of Americans who feel welcomed into his tent from where it currently stands. His increasingly divisive approach is collapsing what little draw he had left among people not Republican/MAGA.

He needs MORE people to like him and want four more years of this than currently do. How is being divisive going to draw people into the tent who aren’t there now?

He already made his bed on this. Even if he were to suddenly be affable and encouraging to all people through November he will be working from the same pool of people. I think people are mostly decided and if they are not they are lying to you. This election is already won or lost. There’s not much point to the next 5 months.
