You can improve your team by scoring more and by preventing runs. The Jays improved their offense by quite a bit. They improved their defense by quite a bit. They did so without increasing payroll. Jose Reyes has been solid but underwhelming in Toronto. Troy Tulowitzki is a much, much better player.

I dont know enough about Toronto's system to answer this, but if this trade leaves them without the pieces needed to get a starter, it's a puzzling move. I do love upgrading from Reyes to Tulo, though. They might have the best infield in baseball now.

They have a really deep system, and they still have Norris, Pompey and Alford (all three have found themselves on league-wide top 50 lists the last year) as the really high-end guys who could be the centerpieces of a deal.

I don't even think they need to target the top-of-the-rotation guys out there. With this offense, they really just need starters who aren't going to completely blow it every game. A mid-rotation type is fine.

Lets make a deal and swap bad contract for bad contract. Choo for Porcello? I'd trade Choo and a prospect or two for Ramirez but I doubt that would happen.

I would maybe do Choo and prospects for Ramirez, but it would depend on the level of prospect. I wouldn't do Choo for Porcello, though.

Choo for Ramirez makes a lot of sense on a lot of levels.

I think Porcello will be fine the next few years. Maybe not worth what he is getting paid but still a solid starter. I bet you guys go after Cueto, Price or Zimmerman. Greinke if he opts out.

Ok ok... maybe I should add that they'll be adding a top of the rotation arm when Stroman rides in on his white horse to save the season.

Good trade for the Brewers trading Gomez for Zack Wheeler and Wilmer Flores if true. I could see them moving Lucroy as well.
