But he's equally as absurd and much more racist than Mutt. That's all I'm trying to say. People hold Crystal Skull to some nonexistent standard. Like it's sooooooooooo far below Temple of Doom. Really they're both about the same level of entertainment/absurdity/bullshit.

They really aren't in the same league. Its not even close. The highs are higher, and the lows aren't nearly as low. I'd take Doom over Last Crusade, but both are miles better than that last one.

Kate Capshaw kinda sucks, and the raft scene is probably on par with the stupid shit in Skull, but other than that, its so much better. And all that over the top CG just doesn't fit in a Indiana Jones movie. Real bugs >>> CGI ants.

But I think time and nostalgia has made the other Indy movies so much more precious to people than they actually are. Especially Temple of Doom, which even a kid I thought was pretty terrible. And hasn't aged well, at all.

Doom is a movie of extremes. It's both the darkest and silliest Indy movie, as opposed to the rather steady tone of Raiders and Crusade. And I love that about it. I love the ominous threat and horror that looms throughout it. But I also love the goofy, absurd humor. I think they balance each other out in just the right way. It will always be my favorite Indy movie, and one of my favorite movies period. But I realized a while ago that other people tend to have a hard time embracing the kind of ridiculous humor on display in stuff like this or Roland Emmerich or Michael Bay movies.

My issue with Doom isn't the mixture of humor and what you're calling horror. The ridiculous humor is the only thing that keeps Doom watchable on repeated viewings.
