Sure, but voter fraud has basically been proven to not be a problem. There are not swaths of illegals trying to vote, for the same reason most illegals try to pay taxes: they're trying to not get caught.

Isn't government creating laws for non-existent issues generally something small-government folks hate?

Wouldn't paying taxes require a SS number in the first place?

generally yeah, but in my opinion it's hardly a government overreach to require proving your identity when voting. But that and a few other things will get me called a statist cuck by my anarcho-capitalist facebook group.

We also have to remember why it's held as racist and why there's a 24th amendment in America. Places like Finland don't have the same context around their elections that we do.

It appears they use an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). 2010 estimates are $13 billion.

Wait, so if illegal immigrants are paying taxes, WTF is the problem with having them here in the first place?

DING DING DING. Good question.

My main problem with the immigration issue is that we are blaming the wrong people. It is basic economics/human nature to seek out better employment, security, etc. for yourself and your family, and these people can not just give themselves jobs, which EVERYONE (including our own president) is eager to do, because it helps their bottom line. Texas is ground zero for the hypocrisy on this issue. Everyone wants cheap labor, Mexican food, and their tax dollars, but then they turn around and accuse all the people providing these things of being criminals and welfare cheats. It's wonderful seeing it literally every waking minute of my life here.

I can explain, but this is the wrong thread.

You're right. As a final thing I'll say I obviously see a lot of the problems with illegal immigration in the US, which probably wasn't clear from my above posts. I just wish people would consider the enablers and those who benefit from it as much as they do the people who actually engage in it.

And trag, if you're interested in some further and more recent reading:

He's made political remarks at commencement ceremonies, in front of at least one memorial to dead Americans, and at a fucking ship launching--did anyone really think he wouldn't discuss the health care vote in front of a bunch of sweaty 16-year-old kids with acne?

Agreed. Businesses that exploit illegals are committing the worse sin: dehumanizing modern day indentured servitude.
