Incredibly impressed with doug's trigger finger here.

I’d love to stick around and continue being educated Mickey but it is time for my death walk. Happy to say you have inspired me to make it a death jog. Gotta get my numbers up if Canada is ever going to compete with RMericans.

Enjoy your celebration today for tomorrow you should get preparing for Happy 200K Death Day that your reasonable and practical ways will have you celebrating before you know it.

I do want to apologize for my insensitive postings. I take full responsibility for showing a lack of compassion. There are better ways I could have expressed myself. I will aim to do better and just not reply when I think I can’t.

Just foe and be done. It's not worth it.

I realize I started this by underhandedly criticizing a dude I apparently went to high school with, but the number of infections caused by joggers is pretty near zero.

Show me the quotes from health officials saying jogging outside is driving community spread. It's not. If what should be a safe outdoor activity like running were actually spreading the virus there would be no point in even trying to mitigate spread.

We don't know that for sure; we know very little for sure. I can understand the motivation of the frustration behind shelter-in-place orders and mandated closures, if not always agree, but the umbrage about masks is absurd. It's just about the least one can do. Why do we have to make this a thing on top of everything else?

If I can distance 6 feet away from you while running I'm not going to have a mask on. Sorry not sorry.

That's true too. When I got out the door, I've moved from asking, "Do I really have to wear a mask?" to "Is there any reason I SHOULDN'T wear a mask?" Because nothing is NO risk, and any activity with a mask is safer than that same activity without a mask.

I'll probably try running with a mask, which I haven't done yet.

........................

We went on a walk with another family today. We showed up in masks, and the other mother asked if we wanted her to get her mask that she had left in the car. I hemmed and hawed, b/c I don't want to boss my friends around, and she eventually got it, but never put it on. No one in their family wore a mask.

We showed up, and my wife and I are wearing masks, and we've made our kids wear masks. They all had masks on them, but never put them on. I don't really get what the fuck was going on.

If you’re high risk and not straying the fuck at home, you’d have to be an idiot to leave your house without an N95 or higher PPE. Expecting others to care more about your health than you do is asinine.
I'm going to push back on this. I don't think there are many high-risk people taking the stance of, "you people need to do more to protect me."

If you're not motivated to mask up more out of altruism, think of it this way, ... people are going to get COVID. Some of them are going to end up in the hospital and/or die. Would you want to find out later that you had COVID and one of those deaths occurred in a person who was at the grocery store with you, and you wanted to be free of the burden of a strip of cloth over your nose?

Running with a mask on is a good way to pass out. It's fucking stupid. Just stay away from people. It's not hard. You don't have to run downtown. If particles still infect people socially distancing out fucking side there is zero point to any of these mitigation efforts.

I might get hot, but I can't believe passing out is a risk. I'm not gonna wear a gas mask.

Your line of thinking leads to one place. Stay the fuck at home unless absolutely necessary. Do that until there is a vaccine. Any walk has risk. You are happy with your amount of risk taken. I am happy with mine. Neither of us are absolutely minimizing risk. As long as people are following the law I think shaming should be stopped.
In my neck of the woods everything personal is recommendations From Provincial Health Order except for self-quarantining after out of country travel. I think this strategy has been very effective. I don’t think social shaming is an effective strategy.

“There is a lot of air space and air flow outside,” Dr. Chambers says. “Data suggests that people who are infectious and generating infectious droplets are of greatest contagion within 6 feet of you.” If you are outdoors and closely packed together at the start of a foot race, for example, there is a risk, he says. “If you are outdoors and appropriately distanced from other people, then it is highly unlikely you will be exposed,” he says. Research simulating the aerodynamics of contagious droplets that walkers and runners leave in their slipstream has been criticized for not taking into account how air can dilute the droplets, he says. Whether running or walking, you are breathing in a large volume of air that is distributed over a broad area. Every breath is over 10 feet of air space. “It’s highly unlikely you’ll come in contact with someone’s airflow unless you’re directly behind them,” he says.

TRANSLATION: wearing a mask while running when social distance is possible is alarmist bullshit.

Same here, but why not?

The risk is incredibly low at this point, especially over here where we haven't had any new cases in weeks (and no known active cases either, so nobody recovering, receiving treatment, etc.)

It just seems like an alternate universe to:
Biff Pocoroba wrote:Probably going to cross over 100,000 US fatalities today.
It was noted in the media this week when Australia crossed 100 deaths nationally.

I can't even wrap my head around it.

(sorry to strip out the rest of your post) ...

Does it though? Do we have to follow all paths to the dead end? Can't we do the things that our states are letting us do, and just wear a mask while doing them because it's a minor inconvenience that carries a significant benefit?

My family wears helmets while riding their bikes because it's safer than not wearing a helmet. No one every says to me, "Hey your line of thinking leads to one place. Never ride a bike!"
