Well, it could have been better, those guys are clever than that ending.

The other night I watched both parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows back to back. Really wonderful film(s).

Some amazing performances all round. Don't know if they're Oscar worthy but certainly Carrell's performance is a memorable one.

Obvious Child
Indie up the yeehaw but funny and enjoyable and great performances. Really liked the lead actress. She played a blinder

Calvary
Brendan Gleeson. The man is such an amazing actor. The rest of this is a bit through a spyglass stereotypical to ramped up fantastical of people found in small Irish towns, but otherwise thoroughly enjoyed this.

Tried again to watch the Godfather II last night. Just cant get into it at all.
The third is on tonight. I'll give it another go.

denzel is pretty awesome in the equalizer. the main antagonist is good too.

Great stuff. Tense and well paced and shows the human side of a troopers story probably for the first time.

Best 'war' film of 2014 apparently

Dime, have you seen The Wind That Shakes the Barley or Hunger? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on them as an Irishman. I thought they were both stupendous.

I Love wind that shakes the barley! it's a class act all round, must watch it again soon! Manages to be evocative without being too heavy handed.
Hunger I haven't seen i'll look that up thanks for the reminder..there's another one (well, a few actually) about the hunger strikers called Some Mothers son which is powerful stuff.
There's a production underway about the 1916 rising. They're promising it'll stick to the facts. Hopefully it'll bury that travesty Liam Neeson was involved in (Michael Collins). Hollywood should just keep hands off unless they're going to do it right.
I do recommend '71 though. really great stuff start to finish.
