The state leg has been controlled by the GOP for almost 20 years. There has been an ongoing battle in the state leg between moderate Republicans, and far-right conservatives, since 2007. The moderate Republicans have supported Medicaid expansion, drug treatment court, protections for MMIWG, renewable energy, and public lands.
The Dems in MT are similarly at odds, though the the far-left candidates don't have a chance in hell of winning anything. The only progressive path forward in MT is for politicians from both sides to work together.
So yes, I support moderate Republicans who advocate for their constituents' needs -- which sometimes means things I don't particularly love, like coal expansion or tax funding for private schools -- because they have a record of also supporting things I do care about, because those issues also serve their constituents.
