Folks at pearljam.com have proposed that and there's a thread about it. I think it's certainly possible, as Santos appeared to hint at it and promote it, and it seems somewhat curated.

I mean, it's certainly got me frothing at the mouth, but wouldn't I be doing that no matter how they promoted it? I dunno.

I have to admit, from what I heard, my immediate response was that it sounded pretty awful - like various iterations of, I don't know, Quick Escape and Sirens. The weakest parts of the last two records, amplified and glossed up.

I know how ridiculous it is to make any judgements based on snippets of music distantly recorded through a door, however, so I'm happy to eat my hat if this thing rules.

It becomes clear at album release time that these guys probably benefited from having an overbearing record company managing the rollout and hype machine. They always seem to muddle through it uncomfortably, not really knowing how it should be done.
I haven’t listened to the door video, but I agree that Quick Escape and Sirens are the weakest parts of their respective records (other than that the end of Quick Escape is a fantastic capturing of the band playing their hearts out). I sure hope this record doesn’t sound like iterations of those two songs.
I think Sirens may be the weakest part of their whole existence, but I really like QE. I’m more interested in variety anyway, but a couple in the QE direction with lyrics that are actually good would be cool.

1) If it were a loiterer, security would have asked them to leave, correct?
2) If it were a fan willing to camp out behind the door, no doubt they would've been prepared to record the whole thing and that would've surfaced by now.
3) Is it sad that PJ feels the need to stage something that would have happened naturally back in the day?

And now, I'll never get back the 5 minutes of my Saturday that I just wasted.

I am sure it isn't staged. Artists are nuts about the specific way they want their work to be heard, especially for the first time, and "muffled by a metal door" isn't it

Through the speaker on my iPhone that won’t connect to my car stereo via bluetooth anymore is definitely better!

I am sure it will be mixed for that exact circumstance

Then they failed miserably, as "YouTube fella" gave a 30 minute, in-depth review right outside the place immediately following, and in front of 10c guy Bierman himself.

And then over 3 minutes of the new music leaked out.

More leaks than the Iraqi Navy.

I don’t believe it was staged, but I remain puzzled that someone was allowed to linger there like that with presumably obvious intentions.

Guys, calm down. I’m the YouTube guy that recorded it. I told you i was there. This was a seldom used door that the Pearl Jam security crew wasn’t aware of. I I’m pretty sure it was one of those doors that trip the fire alarm if you open it.

Why only parts of songs too? Why not record the whole thing and upload it?

Ruddo, were you stopping repeatedly to edge?

One thing you can rest easy on is knowing that Watt didn't neuter Matt's drums the way he did Chad Smith's.
