I'm curious about the call to complain about a suspicious van. Is that how it really went down or is this a case of parallel construction with some underlying questionable sueveillance in use?McParadigm wrote:

Re: The Protest Thread
Yes, the original tweet literally says "self-defense" and that "antifa attempts to kill a man," both of which imply that he did not instigate any violence. I would, at the very least, question why someone in the crowd screamed "get his license plate" before he shot anyone.simple schoolboy wrote:Is anyone implying that?Mickey wrote:I'm quite certain he was merely quietly observing that protest.

Re: The Protest Thread
Keeping in mind, of course, that there were multiple armed men at this protest as representatives of a local militia. Why was this dude singled out by the crowd? I find it hard to believe it was for his weapon alone that they wanted to take down his plates. Which is not to say that he definitely provoked it! We don't know! But "antifa tried to kill this guy," in addition to reeeeeally broadening the category of antifa, almost certainly gives a purposefully limited view of things.

Oh wow look what we have here, shocked I am!
Can't really invoke self-defense/stand your ground if you provoked the encounter.

Re: The Protest Thread
No, you're right Burt, it totally doesn't matter if the man who opened fire at a protest also provoked the encounter, there's definitely nothing to be gained from alternately supporting or debunking the idea that these protests are structured around and incentivize left AND right-wing violence.

Re: The Protest Thread
Lol "provoked". There was pushing and shoving throughout, started by the left and almost entirely by the left. Not to mention the shoving didn't lead directly to the attack.Mickey wrote:No, you're right Burt, it totally doesn't matter if the man who opened fire at a protest also provoked the encounter, there's definitely nothing to be gained from alternately supporting or debunking the idea that these protests are structured around and incentivize left AND right-wing violence.

Yes, it was a real "nice try" to demonstrate that you, in fact, do think it matters how this started, but you totally got me by immediately posting that the left started it. I have been ruthlessly owned.

Okay, so if it doesn't matter then let's just agree that he single-handedly provoked and escalated this situation, and thus cannot invoke New Mexico's duty to retreat law.
