I'd never heard of them before. But I'm super into this record. Super excited to explore more of their stuff.
Their album from 2020 or so is on the usb in my car and I play it on random quite often. Whenever one of their songs comes on I pause and think... "oh yeah!".
Good stuff.
I was listening to a podcast today and Rob Harvilla has Back on the Radio on his "Best of the Year So Far" list.

This is a bit more like it. Way better than 'Blacklight Shines', and a real treat on headphones.

^ Their last album was a stinker and the new single doesn't fill me with much hope. That vocoder "riff" was hardly interesting enough to build an entire song around. Hopefully it's a grower.

Originally conceived as a melancholic ambient work, Bates eventually found himself more and more preoccupied with noise and texture as the album construction went on. The first single, "Destroy the Palace" is streaming now and has a video:

I thought the Porcupine Tree album was a little patchy. Probably just personal preference, but a number of songs seem to meander needlessly before kicking off. That kind of song structure isn't new for PT, but they've executed it better in the past. It's a great sounding album, though. The production is immense.
