No Code is my favorite album. There are so many and Red Mosquito is pretty up there on my list of Pearl Jam songs. In My Tree probably tops, but it’s close with damn near 1/2 the album for a favorite.

My love for the album started with me falling in love with the Sometimes - Hail, Hail opening.

talk about a slap in the face
'in my tree' is still one of my favorite pearl jam songs. i remember listening to it when it came out thinking it was so strange, but amazing. it was like the sound of seeing ufo's or something. i always connected it to aliens when i was a kid.
'red mosquito' didnt strike me as amazing until probably live on 2 legs came out, but that's another beast of a song.
this whole album is incredible.

when this album first came out I liked In My Tree but I wanted it to be tighter, noisier, more slick
now I think it is perfect, in all its rough-edges glory, and this album carries the aesthetic through so well

I think its a good song, but it has never been a favorite to me. Who You Are and that one are great songs, but never favorites.

it's like Mark Rothko; he is great, but everyone thinks he sucks because they're so used to seeing Art With Squares in coffee shops and restaurants now

i get what you are saying with "tribal drum" songs, but this never felt like one of those to me, and other bands shitty songs dont really effect how i enjoy pearl jam songs.

Do you have the same criticism for WMA?

The song stands on its own though and this is Pearl Jam, not Godsmack. I also don't see how this would weigh in on your view of others enjoyment of the song who may have zero idea what the hell you're talking about. Is this similar to not finding
Let's Get It On a good song because it has somehow become cliché with its use in popular media forty-seven years after it was released?

I love "In My Tree". I think it is still my favorite Pearl Jam song. I just love how dynamic and cinematic it is, and the song's own internal arc, how dramatic it is, the menace and triumph of it. Like most of PJ's music, it's fallen off my radar a bit, but I'm playing it again now thanks to this thread and... oo yeah. I'm into this

What are some other songs that have the kind of sound you hear on In My Tree? I'd be curious, as of always felt it had a fairly unique design, even in context of the rest of the band's catalog.
