Their many attempts at crossover to attain relevance are always cringeworthy (the green day collaboration) but this one works and I could listen to it forever

Achtung Baby is very good but not an album I'd offer to counter the argument that they were inauthentic. The whole concept behind that album is grounded in irony

Yeah, that's fair. I don't know how ironic the album is but I get what you mean. I just think the songs are solid for the most part. But again we're talking about a band that I don't think is all that great to begin with. It's my second favorite U2 record but that's kind of meaningless. I haven't listened to that record in a decade or more.

True. I just meant, if U2 isn't generally your thing, those records are different enough (and good enough) that they're worth trying.

One of my best friends in the world used to give me so much shit for liking those two songs. Especially EBTTRT. She thought it was absurd that it was my favorite song.

Tbh if they’re you’re favourites you might well like zooropa a lot more than AB.
The two albums sit so well together though.

That’s like the only part of the first episode that I genuinely hated, and hearing it confirmed my worst fears about the cheesiness of that podcast.
But then it came up again later in the episode and I laughed a little.

Back in July I made a pilgrimage to Hansa studios in Berlin where AB was recorded.
It was in very old East Germany. Really cool though.
