What routine? The summer fattening is upon us!

10 miles in 69 minutes

5 a.m. canal run. I actually tweaked my right knee on the downhill of my Humpreys Peak run, but it felt pretty solid. Enjoyed the usually post-Flagstaff lung bump. 35 out. 34 back. Nice kick.

Fitness is still pretty solid considering I have only been running 2 or 3 times a week. Looking forward to hitting Humpreys again this weekend and seeing how much time I can take off my first run.

10 miles in 75 minutes

The summer fattening is already taking its toll on my speed. And the air quality is total shit right now. Felt terrible the whole way.
Never went back to Humprey's Peak as my buddy developed a nasty head cold that he needs to kick before Western States. He came down here and we met for beers. Kinda depressing that a few years ago we were pretty much equals and now he's the best ultrarunner in the world and I'm a useless pile of shit. But I think I'm happy for him.

So this is big news in my life - I got the head coaching job for cross country at my school. It's boys and girls, grades 7-12. I am grossly under-qualififed, having never been in cross country when I was in school and having only 2 years of coaching experience with junior high baseball. I am following a beloved coach (he got burnt out on teaching) who built the program from single digit participants to numbers in the 40s. I hope I don't fuck this up.

One big negative - I have an all day coaching certification class tomorrow. I have to dvr the England game. I hate recorded sports.

Another shitty run. It was already 85 when I left the house this morning.

Headed out to Mass for the CF Hike tomorrow, raised $2425 thus far so feel alright about that; getting up in 13 hours to hike 30 or so miles, not so much. Hoping for good weather. See ya on the flip-side folks.

This weekend was an overall fantastic experience. Got to hike with some really great people for a tremendous cause.

Up at 2am I was the last one in to the trail with the fastest group around 4. Feeling that I could keep a solid pace and keeping my aid station stops brisk, I ended up hiking with quite a few different people as the day wore on. After being told that there was only 5.2 miles between the last station and the finish, at about two miles after I decided not to stick with the two hikers I had picked up and ran the current downhill, which felt much better on the knees than a slower pace. I continued the run until I crossed the finish, and probably added about a half mile seeing as I ran past the final turn forcing me to back track, fifth to finish and eighth best time overall. Good times indeed.

10 minutes in 70 minutes

Another decent post-Flagstaff lungs bump, although I must admit it's probably all psychological at this point. 36 out. 34 back. Nice finishing kick.

I weighed myself afterward and I'm now 175. I've already gained 10+ pounds since going into summer hibernation 3 weeks ago. This 40-year-old body kinda sucks.

Looking forward to following Western States on Saturday. Stacked field.

How did you do 10 minutes in 70 minutes - is this a tortoise and the hare analogy?

I think I am getting addicted to running. Basically just waiting for a shout-out from the great t2b to make this real. I'm still just doing 3km, but it's feeling better and better every time.

I believe in you, Dev. I predict you'll finish your first 100-mile race by this time next year.

Thanks, it really was a great time. Two solid blisters formed on my heels but they're pretty much gone so I'm hoping to hit the treadmill tonight; between those and my knees, which truthfully have never really been sore before, I've taken a few days off but it feels like forever... 18 days til Jamestown.

i started jogging/walking at lunch

its about 1.5 miles from the front door of my building to the nearest main road so its a 3 mile trek

I use runkeeper

Monday

1st - 12:41
2nd - 15:38
3rd - 13:38
there is about an extra .3 miles added cause i forgot to bring a towel and soap for my shower so my journey took me to the big lots on the other side of the major road

Tuesday

1 - 12:17
2 - 13:53
3 - 14:38

I am sure todays times will be better. noon here in south west pa it has been about 90 degrees and probably 75% humidity. wasnt really prepared for those

 Nice job, keep it up.

With the heat finally hitting here I realized it wasn't comfortable running with my phone so I bought an entery level Garmin which has worked out pretty well but was off about 10% due to elevation during the hike.

In addition, before the picture for the hike start I got a nice sprint back to the condo... wife forgot something and as I ran I noticed water, ended up being my Platypus had let go. Ripped it out of the pack and hauled ass back to the lodge lobby with my Camelback bottle with hand grip in tow, I think that trip saved me because I stayed perfectly hydrated seeing what I was drinking. Love that fuckin' Camelback now. I also feel it may work out for the halfs I have coming up, at least to start, letting me run through the early water stations getting in to a better groove.

i gave up running for biking. bought a GT mountain bike and have been riding the paved bike trails (we have a lot of them for whatever reason) but want to hop on the trails at the park. however, there's all these 'no bicycles beyond this point' signs.

anyway. i've been using this app called Strava if anyone is interested in checking out. i love it. the challenges are great.

btw, i'm down to 217 from 240 and looking to continue this assault on fat.
