The last time the cops came for this guy, he took his neighbor's dog hostage and blew it's head off. Explain to me why I'm supposed to feel sorry for him again?
Cops are above the law. Got it.

I'm not saying the cops acted properly here, but I don't feel sorry for this douchebag one bit, and I don't see the point of turning him into another Rodney King.

NPR had a law professor from South Carolina on, and he had a really good point about changing cop culture so that they view themselves as guardians and not as warriors and how that might change the way the interact with the public.
Guy is even a former cop. It was worth a listen.

I'd appreciate it if cops stopped referring to the rest of us as 'civilians', at least until the courts apply the third amendment to them.

I feel like half (maybe most) the people I know feel this way. It's always the suspect's fault for putting himself in a position where this could happen. "Don't fight, don't resist, and this won't happen."
But I think that's BS. Cops have to be held to higher standards than the rest of us. The guy in Cali clearly surrendered. That should have been the end of it. Everything that follows is on the cops.

I can't view the video right now, but is this the story where he attacked cops and stole a gun?

Im not sure if he attacekd the cops but he did fire his gun up in the air walking down the street and i do believe it was stolen.
The video is just kind of hilarious. IT was probably a good move but its just kind of hilarious/shocking to see the cop just maul him.

I get the feeling that somewhere in Oklahoma, a police union rep is printing up T-shirts of support for the auxiliary officer responsible for the shooting that is some variation of "fuck your breath".

As someone who rides my bike all the time, go fuck yourself, Tampa PD.
http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafe ... ck/2225966
If the tickets are any indication, Tampa residents must be the lousiest bicyclists in Florida.
They don't use lights at night. Don't ride close enough to the curb. Can't manage to keep their hands on the handlebars.
In the past three years, Tampa police have written 2,504 bike tickets — more than Jacksonville, Miami, St. Petersburg and Orlando combined.
Police say they are gung ho about bike safety and focused on stopping a plague of bike thefts.
But here's something they don't mention about the people they ticket:
Eight out of 10 are black.
A Tampa Bay Times investigation has found that Tampa police are targeting poor, black neighborhoods with obscure subsections of a Florida statute that outlaws things most people have tried on a bike, like riding with no light or carrying a friend on the handlebars.
Officers use these minor violations as an excuse to stop, question and search almost anyone on wheels. The department doesn't just condone these stops, it encourages them, pushing officers who patrol high-crime neighborhoods to do as many as possible.

I suggest that Tampa and San Francisco start an exchange program. We could do with better traffic enforcement regarding bikes.
Beyond that, the vehicle code seems geared towards maximizing justification for stops. It seems to me that traffic stops should be oriented towards reducing risk to other drivers/pedestrians/bicyclists rather than revenue generation.

Does Baltimore like to promote the Wire as a softer version of the city? I'd don't recall nickel rides being a lethal afair, if they were covered.

I was gonna post that.
True story: It wasn't until I recently rewatched The Wire that I realized Carcetti was Littlefinger. It blew my mind.

He's good, but as the series goes on, his voice gets more annoying. The accent just doesn't feel natural.
