I am suspicious of how their fans could afford to travel to the game.
My 15 year old stepson asked me this during the game yesterday!

You've gotta be at least even with the defense when the ball is struck; that gif doesn't start until the ball is already in the air.

Hard to judge offside from that angle though. I can't find one gif I saw that was perfectly aligned, so this slightly better one will have to do:

From both of those, esp the 2nd one, it appears he's offsides, no?

To me, he looks even with the guy marking the fellow directly below him. He gains ground so quickly (and appears offsides) because that guy was turned the wrong way, so by the time he turns his whole body, the goalscorer (who was off at a dead run) is like 10 yards ahead. If he was offsides, it was like by a halfstep.

hmm not at all
here's more or less the moment when the ball is sent forward:
The angle is not perfect so if it was close it would be hard to tell but here he's onside by quite a margin.

The linesman is right there, I assume if he felt he was offside he would have put up the flag.

Rule of thumb is if you don't hear tv commentators spend the rest of the game obsessing about whether he was or wasn't offside by half a testicle, then there was no offside.

Ahh i was looking at the guy defending him, not the guy on the other side of the field.
