Well, thanks to Ed at Wrigley we now know that Mike has 4 balls, so that should put us at a comfortable +3 by my accounting.

The balls -1 post made me cry with laughter:)

It'll probably all kick in a month away; at least you'll be intrigued when things begin to pop up on the Internet for you to read. The problem is that 3 months was fucking stupid.
I don't really expect it to. Curiosity might kick in, but that's it.

:D

I'd bet each of mikes balls have the face of a different member of kiss tattooed on them.

Are they really the kind of balls you want on this album?

Lot of fans I know, this is exactly what they want.

Nailed it

Again, that's asking too much. Your life shouldn't suck cos a band you chose to 'invest' in, doesn't deliver a record that meets your list of demands, however reasonable they may seem to you.
When did I say my life 'sucked' just because PJ sucked? They're not the *only* thing I've invested my life in but you're speaking to me as if they are. I don't think expecting greatness from a band that once did, and so can, achieve greatness, is unreasonable. You do; that's fine, I'm sure your life is easier because of it, but OK. Let's assume I take your 'lower your standards' advice. The problem with that is, over the last roughly-a-decade now, with every new piece of music PJ have done, I've been gradually lowering my standards. I wish that experience had been as sexual as it sounds, but unfortunately it has kind of sucked. At this point, the problem is that I can't really lower my standards any more than I have been. At the moment I enjoy Pearl Jam as much as any mediocre rock band. I'm not sure what else you're asking for?

Tattooed balls?

Are you saying you've never thought "man I wish pj would do this" or " I really hope they do something like that" ?

When people say 'need' or 'want' I'm pretty sure they're saying the same thing. No ones demanding anything or putting in an order.

I want this album to kick my ass, otherwise I guess i'll stick to '
Well the first 6 were really good but.....'

I've stopped having taste altogether, I just listen to random songs on the radio and tell myself I love everything. I'm so much happier now.

The new PJ fan's manifesto.

I'm not sure if this is just me but this place seems to be giving an awfully negative vibe the last few days. From what we have heard of the new album (MYM, LB, FD and possibly SBM), I don't see why. Maybe the majority has a vastly different opinion on these songs than I do. The majority on RM that is.

During slow/no news times it always reverts to pessimistic. It's the default setting. Mine too.

Also I consider riot act to be just 'aight' rather than 'really good'

If they made something similar to Riot Act now, I would probably jump ship. Or at least join those whining about how this band 'used to be great'.

When Riot Act first came out, I was very disappointed with it. But at this point, if they made something as experimental and off-the-cuff sounding as Riot Act I would piss myself with joy.

Different strokes, I guess. I don't need PJ to experiment to like what they put out. If they do it well then I'll probably like it, but if they don't, I'd rather they did something they were actually good at. It's another thing altogether that I didn't find Riot Act too experimental, aside from a couple of songs. Too many songs on it just didn't have any life in them, for me. I could imagine any number of bands making those songs and me not caring the slightest bit for them. I try to like every PJ album when it first comes out no matter what my first impression is. A year or so later, I found myself caring very little for most of Riot Act. And it hasn't changed a decade later.

I'd probably let the whole board piss on me if they made something as good as Riot Act today.

DIME hates S/T and he was going on and on about how horrible of the earth was and how he hoped that wasn't the direction they were going in...

So....

I get his point about being all yoda like and not having expectations but he's really simplifying it. Sorry, we all love/loved the band at what point and there are certain things you like and want out of their music. They have a fairly wide palette of sounds for a rock band so its not unusual for some to dislike one aspect but love another.

If we lower our standards completely and expect nothing, then we will be sleeping around with everyone and contracting all sorts of STD's. But, D is gay, and the gays like to sleep with everything that moves. Obviously.

The less time I spend discussing Pearl Jam, the more it becomes apparent that I haven't really loved one of their records since Yield and I've liked every subsequent album less than the last; my hopes for Lightning Bolt aren't exactly through the roof.
