This virus is soooo passé. It’s summertime, everybody! Let’s loot and burn the city, and maybe a lil ultraviolence for good measure.

Does Mass report less on the weekend? That seems to be the case in Illinois. Tuesday and Wednesday are the big death and new case days. I'm sure there is a backlog/process aspect to the daily numbers.

this was actually really hard for me to read not just because of all the prosecco i drank but also because 'liberal' is usually meaning 'freedom-loving' but in this case it's about restricting religious freedom for the greater good and roberts is supposedly a 'conservative' and should support christ but instead rejects him and chooses satan

and there is a lot of lawyer talk

That sir is confirmed. Tuesdays always have the spike due to backlog.

Yeah, Nate Silver has been highlighting this.

But the numbers are getting better in Mass, as they are in CT too. The post-weekend numbers do correct.

A teacher got a hospital bill for $840,000 after having corona. Do we really expect the vaccine to be free of charge in the US?

That news story is incredible but, as you say, the Trump thought process is certainly predictable.

It seems Trump is clutching at any straws available after fucking up the Covid response so badly (not that he feels he did, but he's got to at least be aware of the chatter). It's like he needs the vaccine all to himself so he can hold it up as the reason to ensure he gets back in for another term.

I am really sick of watching this pompous, arrogant, stupid man continue to put his personal agenda and public perception above the safety and health of not only his own citizens (who clearly he neither cares about nor particularly values) but now the rest of the world's citizens too.

America going it alone across trade, health, alliances and everything else is just accelerating the shift of the true world power away from the US and directly to China and to a lesser (or perhaps a quieter) degree Russia. I guess that's not necessarily a terrible thing for me as a non-US citizen.

It's funny as I always thought the POTUS was the most powerful man in the world, but looking at how Trump is handling the role he's pretty much actively reducing its power and authority on the world stage. For a power-hungry twat like Trump I think that's a strange irony. But I guess if you surround yourself with sycophants and make people constantly in fear of their jobs and livelihood, there's no one there to tell him otherwise. When Trump is the smartest guy in the room that's when you are seriously fucked.

Trump is only the smartest guy in the room when he's in the bathroom and only before he's taken a shit.

Oh just wait. At some point Trump & his party will lose power, and the Republican party will insist that America's decline on the global stage is due to debt racked up by "liberal" policies, and because Democrats are weak on foreign policy. And the MAGA/GOP crowd will eat it up, as they've done in the past, because blaming the left for everything wrong is basically their only "ideology" now.

Step one: Own the Libs

There is no step 2 (that I can see)

Bars were supposed to be able to open up today. I was looking forward to going out to my favorite but there's probably going to be curfews the next several days, and honestly, who wants to go to a bar in the afternoon? (I probably will, just not today).

On May 13 Wisconsin showed 10,904 corona cases. As of yesterday the state showed 18,403. That's a 71% increase since the state supreme court ruled their stay at home order was not constitutional.
Minnesota's counts have also spiked since May 14, from 13,435 to 24,529 (+82%). Hennepin County, home of Minneapolis, has increased from 4930 on May 16 to 8514 (+73%) today. Who knows how high that will jump in the next few weeks. And I'm sure other major cities experiencing significant civil unrest will be in the same boat.

A lot of testing sites have been closed. Numbers will look okay for a bit. Illinois was under 1000 infections today for the first time since April.

On Tuesday, Professor Neil Ferguson, of Imperial College London, whose bleak projections of future deaths from Covid-19 influenced governments around the world to institute massive lockdowns, admitted of Sweden, which did not institute harsh lockdowns, “It is interesting that adopting a policy which is short of a full lockdown – they have closed secondary schools and universities and there is a significant amount of social distancing, but it’s not a full lockdown – they have got quite a long way to the same effect.”

Speaking before a House of Lords Science and Technology Committee, the man who predicted half a million Britons could die from Covid-19 spoke of Sweden, whose 436 people per million mortality rate from the coronavirus is significantly lower than the UK’s 575 people per million. The Daily Mail noted, “As well as fewer deaths, Sweden’s GDP actually grew in the first quarter of 2020, suggesting it might avoid the worst of the economic fallout from the crisis.
