Jeff fought to keep SS off the record and lost?
actually that would be the opposite

I was thinking "Ed fought to keep a pop song on a rock record" instead of "Jeff fought to keep a rock song on a pop record"
This shit was something Ed and Josh did during the Earthling sessions right?
well, the band does not have any kind of power with these things. I cant imagine the band really wanting this shit to be on the album.
if they were unhappy they'd leave; if nothing else it sounds like this album was collaborative

According to RM, Ed is apparently only middle-aged, Val.
I wasn’t talking about his age

I think this is it.
He just puts his foot down and the band decides to let him have it or else deal with a tantrum.

I don't hate the clip, I think I'll like this song, but I understand why people are hating it

my biggest issue is all the over-voweeewwweaal-izing he's doing, I'd hoped we were over that

Vocal melody sounds like it’s copied from the closing song in the movie Moneyball that his daughter records for him, only that song was executed better.

Ed's over-annunciating sentence monster is like the killer in a slasher flick. Just keeps coming back no matter how much we try to kill it.

This is the song, and I agree the vocal melody sounds similar.

Yeah, I think this could be okay. Yes, it's very "latter-day PJ formula" to drop something like this on an album when thematically it probably is better as a b-side. I don't love that in theory.

But if we're coming of of ~12 minutes of album centerpiece type stuff after Upper Hand and Waiting for Stevie, maybe the Running/Something Special combo will be fine for setting up the final two songs. Based on what we have, I can imagine it working.

Just because I'm a father and I have a very special relationship with my 15 year old daughter (who is an absolutely amazing person) doesn't mean my musical discernment and tastes have gone straight the shitter. If anything, it might actually make this song feel MORE cringey!

With that said, I fully expect to enjoy this song much more than Just Breathe and Future Days... but considering my pure hatred for those songs, that's not really saying much.

Ok a couple more listens. I can see this being one of those that starts off being hated and then grows on you over time. It has ear wormy potential. As long as one can get over the shitty sound, which could inevitably happen over time as you stop imagining what the song could have sounded like and accept what it does sound like.

But for fucks sake… why is this the next single?
