Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Scientology's influence just isn't what it used to be by most accounts. The picture laid out by Going Clear and the work of Mike Rinder is that of a cult with a faded influence, corroded by popular perception, high-profilers jumping ship, and an all-but-stagnated stream of new converts in the upper echelons of the industry (they're still getting a trickle of new folks, but mostly the nobodies who will fall for any self-help grift). That said yeah maybe enough of them are Academy members that they would block the nom (or one very powerful one pulling their weight). No real way of knowing
