I do think that unless you're kettled by the cops (which to be fair is a real possibility), it's pretty easy to take precautions at an outdoor protest--don't share a megaphone, use a mask, stay six feet apart when you can. Definitely has the potential to be safer than a haircut, though certainly a lot of people aren't having that experience.

If someone tries to hand you a Molotov cocktail to throw, just say "NO THANKS, I brought my own."
