Ahh yes, legislation that the NRA advocated for and police unions opposed because it rolled back many of the restrictions passed in the aftermath of JFK’s assassination and explicitly forbade the government from creating a national registry of gun ownership.

As debate for FOPA was in its final stages in the House before moving on to the Senate, Rep. William J. Hughes (D-N.J.) proposed several amendments including House Amendment 777 to H.R. 4332, which modified the act to ban the civilian ownership of new machine guns

I appreciate the absolute void of argument you display by using Dev’s misuse of the word automatic to pretend to think his concern was machine guns, and not the modern assault weapon that was just used to murder children.
Mostly because you have just reminded us that a ban on the production of fully automatic weapons for civilian use happened and
succeeded. The number of privately owned fully automatic machine guns in the US plummeted in the decades after the law passed. Today, they can cost tens of thousands of dollars to acquire and most are in the hands of dedicated, safe hobbyists.

Not to defend Mac, this performance is embarrassing and he should have called it a while ago, but that is the same frustration many moderate/right people have when overly academic definitions of terms like "Socialism", "Fascism", and "Critical Race Theory" are used to dismiss criticisms of those ideas. The ridiculous argument that "your position is wrong because those are not automatic weapons" isn't meaningfully different from "your position is wrong because that's not real socialism".

Mac, you're pretty useless in here. Focusing on semantics isn't debating or supporting your views. Claiming we should be more informed is inconsequential to the points many have made.
You've yet to say anything in reply to how these things prevent tyranny. You're #1 reason for owning them.
Thanking Burt for his hypothetical is not a response. And his hypothetical admits that AR owners as revolutionaries would merely frustrate the gov. not topple it.
