Yeah, the 4 song sampler thing ruined it. We've never had a 4 song sampler but we joke about one's existence before every album.

there was one for s/t to make this just a little plausible

at this point it could be real. And I'm happy enough to believe reports of good songs until I have reason to think otherwise.

There's always part of me that enjoys hearing the reports of what songs sound like, even if they're fake. I guess that if you add everything together, including what the band has said -- even having used words like "experimental" -- maybe it's a safe bet that we might have a slightly more challenging and interesting listen than Backspacer?

i wonder if people would have hated the LW fadout less if they had not heard the full version

i suspect it'll be different just based on past practice. There is reason to hope.

What I am NOT looking forward to (if MYM is a straightforward song) is 2 months of people assuming that one song is indicative of the album as a whole. It could be, of course, but we won't know.

I'm actually happy I've not heard any 30 second samples yet, and when they appear I'm gonna try and not listen to them; they make you guess at what songs are like and with Backspacer I was surprised, in some cases disappointed.

I don't think I remember hearing the longer version of LW without the fade-out, so I guess I was happy enough. My only issue with that song is the attempt at a 'catchy' chorus. It was cheesy.

One thing I can safely say, I think, is that the leading single is never indicative. IMO.

I'll always expect a PJ punk song to be 'filler' anyway; not necessarily in terms of quality, just in terms of sounding different to the bulk of the album.

I don't remember having heard the uncut version in advance - the fadeout never bothered me in the slightest.

I wonder why I didn't hear it? I doubt I would've ever declined to hear something in advance, might get hit by a bus tomorrow etc., but for whatever reason, I don't think I heard anything from S/T until it was released. I was admittedly less active on here at the time.

im pretty sure i did hear it with out the fade, but i dont remember it, i think i lost it a long time ago so all ive had since is the fade out version

There have been samplers for Riot Act, ST and Backspacer. The ST one just happened to leak.

Samplers are common. They are sent to journalists to give them an impression of an album and write a preview. It's a way of building hype.

I heard the non-fade out version of Life Wasted at the time and never gave two shits about the change. It was really no big deal.

One thing I can safely say, I think, is that the leading single is never indicative. IMO.

Someone made the same point the other day but I think they're really indicative sometimes. I'd say with their last 4 records the singles have been fairly to quite representative of the albums.
