Is it really that good? I've been reluctant, but have remained interested. Is the core mechanic basically turn-based RPG combat, but more dumbed down?

I don't think it's that dumbed down. It's simpler, but then I don't like complex systems much to begin with.

They usually throw in enough unique encounters to keep it from getting boring.

I'm starting to see them a lot more in stores (both the gray and neon versions). I think your kids will love it.

i lucked out yesterday and randomly found some SNES Classic in stock on EB Games' website. it was sold out again a couple minutes later when i went back with a different credit card to order one for my sister for xmas.

I use my Wii U to power on my SNES Classic since everything is wired behind the TV stand and I am lazy. I was about an hour into a session with Yoshi's Island and the Wii U's power mode setting turned the system off. I did not save...

hey, that's pretty clever though. So ca it power through USB instead of an AC adapter? i might be able to rig something like that up with my PS4

Yes, as long as the USB power source (Wii U or PS4) is on. I bet it would work on the PS4 if it is on rest mode too. I'm able to just swap the HDMI cable back and forth too.

I can confirm that the PS4 does power it in rest mode. Had quite a bit of fun playing yesterday. The suspend point feature is really nice to have too....there was nothing worse back in the day than having to shut down Super Mario World knowing that you would lose those 50 lives you have saved up .

There's just something so incredibly special about a mainline Mario game. Really captures the joy and essence of what makes video games such a unique medium.
