Seriously though I know someone stationed in South Korea; I've thought about him a few times this week.

Yeah, that'll save you from it

Watching him outright lying about the market is just so astonishing

Hopefully his people see through it. That’s treating your base and everyone with pure contempt.

No. His lying about how the US will be affected and how close the vaccine is to being ready just to try and keep the economy strong is what’s astonishing.

he is an inarticulate baboon

but the truth is you are more likely to die from a slip and fall accident than coronavirus

it's not worth destroying the economy over it

You really aren’t taking this virus seriously eh?

You probably should. Economy means fuck all if this ends up burning through countries and it already is

i don't fear getting sick from coronavirus

there is enough data to show at this point that the people at risk are mostly very elderly smokers or people with pre-existing conditions

the economy matters because if every country decides the solution to this is to stop sending people to work and shut everything down for weeks then it will inevitably lead to debt defaults and unemployment

every time they look at this thing this thing it has a longer and longer incubation period. separating everyone from each other won't matter

it's inevitable we will all be exposed

just wash your hands a lot and if you feel real sick the go to a hospital

but we can't shut the world's companies down for 2 months just to not-stop a virus that only kills people who would die from the flu anyways

You keep saying it is only killing people that smoke. I'm not seeing that anywhere.

So far, about 82 percent of the cases — including all 14 in the United States — have been mild, with symptoms that require little or no medical intervention. And that proportion may be an undercount.

[...]

“The fact that there are so many mild cases is a real hallmark of this disease and makes it so different from SARS,” said Jennifer Nuzzo, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Center for Health Security. “It’s also really challenging. Most of our surveillance is oriented around finding people who require medical intervention.”

In China’s Hubei province, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, the number of new infections rose by 14,840 in a count released Thursday, with 242 new deaths, as health officials there broadened the criteria they are using to confirm cases.

World Health Organization expert Michael Ryan said in a news briefing this week that, outside of Hubei province, the virus’s behavior did not seem to be as aggressive or accelerated.

For those who study viruses, the large number of mild cases is reason for optimism. “This looks to be a bad, heightened cold — I think that’s a rational way of thinking about it,” said Matthew Frieman, a virologist at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. “Not to diminish its importance — it’s in the middle between SARS and the common cold.”

[...]

Schaffner also noted that in China, where the vast majority of deaths and illnesses from the “covid-19” disease have occurred, air pollution and a higher smoking prevalence may contribute to the severity of the disease.

we are healthier in the U.S., smoke less, and (except for L.A.) generally have good air quality

places with poorer healthcare to begin with, and people who smoke shitass cigarettes constantly, and where air pollution is terrible (i.e. China, China, China) are going to be more prone to having deaths
