The funny thing is you listen a few times and it’s really not a complete and total left turn, but more like tinkering in the vein of the last albums on the Epic/ Sony label. They needed this.

So save your predictions and burn your assumptions...

This morning I feel less stressed that I paid for three PJ shows, and would not be looking forward to hearing this single live.

Solid - I always thought PJ would age into more rock stomps (like Crazy Horse) than Talking Heads. I prefer the latter.

I hope they went into making this album without the mindset of "what will fit in the live show." Too much lazy songwriting in the PRAMG era - this is a good direction.

The first three lines in the last image are just a copy of the bottom three lines in the previous image.

yes.

this seems to be the first time in a long time that they stopped trying to be "pearl jam" and just made some music. that certainly is the case with this song.

Still really liking the way this sounds this morning. This is not the arena in which I envisioned modern PJ coming into the best version of themselves, and it's a genuinely pleasant surprise.

It brings me so much joy to see guys like Kevin Davis, spenno, and mcp genuinely enjoy this

Several things I like about this song, but the last 2:00 is simultaneously good as is and ripe for improvement live. It sounds like it’s right on the edge of breaking down into an all out jam.

I really enjoy this song. I went in with no expectations, and can't stop spinning the track. It's an interesting listen on it's own (loving the mid-career Talking Heads nods) but also it's a reassuring listen when taken within context of PRAMG Pearl Jam. This band doesn't quite sound like themselves here, and that's a good thing! Reinvention. Evolution. Whatever. The looser things get, the tighter you become, indeed.

The obvious and wise choice for a band that made this song is to recognize it as a template for building a cohesive, fertile departure album. When your whole career has been rock songs and “face melt, bro” solos, you could jump into these waters and find a dozen varying and enjoyable ways to splash around.

This band’s history is so much more inclined towards experiments being one offs I don’t know what to expect. Like, if this album is Dance, the pipe organ song, one or two other surprises, two Ed acoustic solo tracks, and a half dozen “it sounds like Pearl Jam” shruggers, that’s gonna be such a drag downward from where this song starts me out at.

I heard it on Sirius on the way in to work. I immediately thought of Eminence Front. A different sound for Pearl Jam; more "modern rock" than straight guitar driven. I don't have a firm opinion yet if I actually like it yet but I don't hate it.

Woke up this morning and was literally afraid to listen to the song. I took an extra long shower and puttered around the house. Kept thinking about The Fixer and MYM and CDM and cringed at the thought of how disappointing it would be.

I was completely shocked at first listen. Like, this was way more promising than what I could have expected. Is it flawless? No, of course not. Is it the catchiest thing ever? No, not really catchy at all. Does it sound like a band that still has some creative exploring to do? Hell yes! PJ is not dead after all!!!

Wow, this song really does open up when you listen with headphones, doesn’t it? How about that production?

I suppose one silver lining of this band taking their sweet time with new music is that they aren't reemerging just to phone it in.

Still a bit of EEEE---YYYAAAAA-zing going on, but, it's much more reasonably tamed here and fits Ed's current voice well..
The earlier comments about the vocal production and mic choices are spot-on.

Man Eddie sounds good. I didn’t think he still had it in him.
