No, not yet. I listened to about half of track 1 of the phone recording before deciding I'd prefer to listen in full qualityRelease_Me wrote:Have you not heard the full album yet? Truth be told I'm not crazy about the vocal melody in the verses, it feels boring and ordinary to me. But I like the chorus, because it leaves some empty space, because it's just one line, because it comes late in the song and sounds legitimately mournful

Well, Trag just said in the main album thread that he got the FLAC CD rip. If you find that, PM me too.Jorge wrote:No, not yet. Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

Re: Wreckage
watched the visualizer (I can't believe that's the best visualizer they could come up with), with the lyrics, and once I finally can understand what the hell he's singing, this might be my favorite PJ song in a very long time, despite the generic qualities. It moved me, gave me chills.
Isn't it cool how he sings "all those yesterdays" and "release"? It's like he's combing through the wreckage of the band's history also. And I agree this is probably mostly about his personal relationship with his wife. Just feels like that to me. Get excited, ladies.

I noticed those lines too! Little references to the bands past, intentional or not.tree_ wrote:watched the visualizer (I can't believe that's the best visualizer they could come up with), with the lyrics, and once I finally can understand what the hell he's singing, this might be my favorite PJ song in a very long time, despite the generic qualities. Really enjoyed listening to this since yesterday. Can hear quite a bit of 2010s-era Ed, but in a good way. The music is harder to place, but some of it has a Yield-like quality.

At first it sounded like the full band Let Me Sleep they have been doing.Anders wrote:Really enjoyed listening to this since yesterday. Can hear quite a bit of 2010s-era Ed, but in a good way. The music is harder to place, but some of it has a Yield-like quality.

Re: Wreckage
Yeah, I wouldn't have placed it, but that part in the beginning, with the quick hammer-ons and pull-offs in the riff, definitely feels reminiscent of Let Me Sleep.
I think the ending really does elevate the song into a different space. It manages to feel like something that wouldn't be out of place in arena sing-along, while adding this modicum of doom to what was before that a really solid folk/pop song. It sounds like the song is spiraling in the same way as the character. With the full song, you can also really hear the Petty, particularly Learning to Fly.

I dig the Learning To Fly homage because lyrically, it calls back to crashing and if you'll recall, coming down is the hardest thing.digster wrote:Yeah, I wouldn't have placed it, but that part in the beginning, with the quick hammer-ons and pull-offs in the riff, definitely feels reminiscent of Let Me Sleep.
