"Rats" is basically a list of things that rats don't do

I do love the start of mfc though. could have been an album opener. sounds like the promise of new beginnings

MFC’s sing songy chorus really lets down what was creeping into 5 star territory. great outro

low light’s music is pretty beautiful. Just dont like the lyrics (which undermine the mood for me) and I dont like the layering in Eddie’s performance.
the out of tune piano (is that what it is?) is a nice touch. lowlight is accented in all sorts of cool and interesting ways
underrated (by me at least) solo I kind of forgot about.
Really nice outro

In Hiding doesnt work for me on a few levels. Dont like the verse lyrics and dont care for what stone is playing. The vocal melody is pretty weak, too. Jeff sounds really good though.
the prechorus is pretty fun, but not as fun as I remembered. But the I’m in Hiding part is all the vibratoey/nasely tendencies from No Code and Yield dialed up to 11
this is one of the very few pj songs i definitively prefer live.

although the first part of the word ‘hiding’ is kind of what I wish he was doing in the gtf chorus

I heard the studio version recently for the first time in a while and was bowled over. The kind of demonic, crazed intensity they crack in the last minute of that song is something they've never really been able to do before or since.

I think that from a songwriting standpoint, "In Hiding" is one of the most wholly developed and satisfying PJ compositions. I love the performance too and the way it was captured in the studio. The only thing I don't like is the pointless fade-out of the guitar part at the end.

yeah, Ed´s performance is great. He really goes for it, and he really became that character.

actually jack is pretty good on push me/pull me.
there are elements of and moments in this song I like, but it never fully comes together for me.
I dont know that Eddie fully had the lyrical vocabulary to fully express everything he wanted to on yield and no code. he returns to these ideas more effectively in future songs (though the songs themselves are sometimes less interesting). the jump in his writing between yield and binaural is striking.

i know you really love faithfull, too. these are quite possibly the two songs from the entire 90s studio catalog i find the least interesting. what about them works for you?

all those yesterdays is a lot of playful fun. it isnt aiming high enough to be an all timer but i quite enjoy what it does.
i really don’t like the beatles and yet I am a big fan of their two most beatles adjacent songs

this and S/T are usually tied in my rankings. Two albums with some huge highs and a lot of middling moments for me. I havent given them both fresh listens in close proximity in quite some time. looking forward to seeing how they measure up

I've enjoyed In Hiding live, but I never thought Ed was able to deliver those notes like he did in the studio.

i listened to this for the first time in a while the other day, i forgot how much i love it. for pearl jam's "experimental" songs, this is by far my favorite.
