Curious of people's thoughts on "the sirens". Rescue sirens? Ambulance sirens? Police sirens? Could change the sentiment of the song. I'd love to hear Ed talk just a bit about this one.

Haven't heard the song yet but those lyrics look much better than Just Breathe... Not as cheesy as I thought they'd be...

Given the album's themes (I know, sorry, but hear me out) is it probably rescue / ambulance sirens? There's a lighthouse on the artwork, right? The sirens 'covering distance in the night' remind me of the patrol rescue helicopters that fly over our bit of coast.

For all the negative words I've read about this song, after my first listen, it was actually, maybe, kinda good.

That said, I started thinking about the one line being "reach across the bed". That made me think twice, pondering on whether he may just be talking about sirens he hear's at night - potentially ambulance sirens - which got him thinking about death and how quick life goes by, but his gaze back to his wife's face calms him down? Might be a stretch.

Yeh. I think there's a good amount of depth here. Potentially a underlying narrative of sorts as well.

I just came on here to post the same lyric suggestion. Good call. I quite like these lines -

And man, following through the lyrics changes the experience quite a bit. I couldn't do this earlier from my office. Finally got home, fixed the dishwasher, had dinner, and I just put the 2yo son down for the night. Sang him a little wishlist as is our norm, and came down to try this song again.

It's better tonight. My initial puke reaction is hard to overcome, but I think this will get there. I listened maybe 8 or 9 times during the day and am on my 3rd time through the LB songs now tonight. Lights off, headphones on.

It is a beautiful song, and as long as you let yourself get a little taken by it without acknowledging the immediate reaction of most rock fans, it can be something special. Double that with thoughts of your 2yo son as you read through the lyrics as you listen. This might get me some goosebumps after all.

I retract my earlier disgust and am quietly hoping this actually can be a centerpiece. Jury's still out, but at least it's not convicted after the prosecution's argument earlier today...

I went from what the fuck, to confusion, to accepting it, back to what the fuck, and now to loving it. All in 10 listens.

And immersing yourself in it is the only way to hear it. This absolutely will be not a driving song for me. It will still get skipped unless it can be focused upon

Anybody have a file/download of the song?? I listened to it twice earlier today, still without much of an opinion but I havent been able to find it now anywhere online. Any help would be appreciated

Poison was probably 1986-1989 or so. Not sure I had a favorite band until 1992

Discovered pearl jam and metallica at about the same time. Metallica was number 2 until 1994/1995, at which point I had heard enough REM to put them there.

My favourite artist before Pearl Jam arrived was Bryan Adams.
