from everything I'm hearing? Old Charles / Young Charles / Young Magneto interplay steals this movie, and judging from the previews, young Magneto looks to kick all sorts of ass.

The Quicksilver kid is really annoying me.

what didn't you like about it? I do have some issues, I guess. The villains weren't that compelling (outside of shaw's connection to Magneto), and the team was underdeveloped except for Beast and Mystique (both of whom I thought were well done). But the team was underdeveloped in the other X-movies other than Jean Grey and Wolverine. Actually I guess Rogue was fairly well done. And I don't know that there's anything in X-2 that comes close to Xavier and Magneto's relationship. And the training montage in 1st class was really really nicely done and really helped you understand why Xavier was the soul of the x-men, and not just its landlord.

Outside of magneto and Xavier, it felt like a bad CW teen drama. The XMen were very poorly done. Mags and Xavier were really good though.

Mags and X were SO GOOD though, I kinda over look the rest. The Hellfire Club (Shaws crew) should have somehow escaped because of Magneto and Xavier not seeing eye to eye, it really cheapened them as characters to be 1 off villains.

Id have had Xavier and Magneto still friends at the end of First Class with the seeds planted for the future. It kinda seemed rushed to have them break up in the first movie.


whats the odds young Xavier dies in DoFP? if Apocalypse is next? That would really put this movie up there if they do kill young Charles

I guess I liked that it just admitted the truth: the story of that two-character conflict IS the story. Everyone else is a pawn or bishop. Maybe in a comic there's more room for ensemble depth. In a movie, everybody else is an extension of that central conflict, and you sacrifice the power and tension it provides when you start sidetracking Ellen Page's teen angst into it. Heck, in an origins story the hench characters just represent the ever changing influence each ideology holds, and serve to give a visual representation of each character's rise to power.

The pawns in First Class really REALLY suck though.
