Lots of good musicians but not many coherent teams yet.

The upcoming narratives... and a little imagination will make it make more sense for you... hopefully.

Looking at the rest of your band, that pick makes a lot of sense to me, THIP. Nice job.
Kaius, you're up!
I disagree. I think there are a few pretty coherent bands coming together here.zeb wrote:Lots of good musicians but not many coherent teams yet.

Hey, how are going to do this? After the draft is over, are we simply going to each pull together a persuasive presentation and allow the RM masses to vote? Will only the participants vote? Will there be a q&a for the band gm's?

You assemble your Dream Band's debut album using only songs from each member's respective careers.

Anyone on the board can vote, whether they participated or not. Every band will have a "presentation," where you can use anything at your disposal (audio clips/video clips/essays/theoretical directions/promises of sexual favors/etc.) to make your case for why your band would be successful. It can contain as little or as much information as you'd like. You're allowed to answer any questions that voters (be they other tournament members or not) pose to you after your presentation. We'll pick a set period of time and let people vote on each match up, with the winners moving on to the next round.
Hope that makes sense.

Also, every band has to cover I'm on Fire, and Jorge has to decide which band's cover of it would be most appropriate to listen to while making love.

That last requirement, I'm very happy with.

As you should be, Sarge. I bet John Bonham would love to go all "When the Levee Breaks" on that song. It'd probably make for some good thrusting.

How so? Looks? Maybe... but the guitar ability, creative dynamics, and overall intrigue is incomparable... to me.
I'm a bit biased. though. I lived about 10 miles from Annie when she was developing a local buzz in Dallas, and then she did The Fragile Army with The Polyphonic Spree, she toured as the solo opener for The National, commanded national attention, and is now a favorite of the indie kids... Rightfully so... Very nice girl, too.
I saw PJ Harvey open for U2... It was ok.

Re: Dream Band Super-Group Tournament - Round 4 - *Kaius*
I was just poking fun at you presenting your pick of her using the exact same words I used to pick someone she's constantly compared to. I actually don't think she's as similar to PJ as the music press seems to think so. I think it's mostly lazy journalism just because they're both pale skinned, dark-haired, multi-instrumentalists.
I'm not putting down your girl, but PJ has over twenty years of non-stop critical adoration, never-ending accolades (an Order of the British Empire, the only multiple Mercury Prize winner, Q Magazine's #1 Female Artist of all-time, NME's Outstanding Contribution to Music award, etc.), constant reinvention, and a career arc that somehow still may not have peaked (her last album won the Mercury Prize, the Ivor Novello Award, and was named album of the year by the BBC, The Guardian, Hot Press, the LA Times, Mojo, NME, The Quietus, Slant, and Uncut). She is quite possibly the most critically acclaimed and accomplished female musician of the rock/pop era. Annie Clark has a long way to go before she's in PJ Harvey's realm.Iholdthepain wrote:I saw PJ Harvey open for U2... It was ok.

Would your dream concert be PJH, Foo, and Fleetwood Mac?
Just poking fun back... diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.
Oh, and I agree that she's got a long way to go to live up to PJH's critical acclaim, but Annie is also a LOT younger... like when Nolan played for the Mets... sure, there were better pitchers at the time, but eventually...

There will be a Annie Clark subforum when we wise up and finally convert this board into the PJ Harvey forum.
