I love Incesticide. I've probably listened to it more than any other Nirvana album. What are your thoughts on "Hairspray Queen"?

Still listening to About a Girl, and man I LOVE LOVE LOVE the chord choices and guitar sound on the "I'll take advantage while" section and the way it transitions back into the initial plodding chords! That is so cool and satisfying. And then the drums picking up with the tamborine thing into the guitar solo? Its like demented Beatles. Its great. Grunge pop? What?
Kurt had a great feel for melody and could come up with some real catchy stuff. Sliver could probably be another "grunge pop" number.
And you know what? My other favorite song by Nirvana was Lithium, for ONE REASON and ONE REASON ONLY. I don't care much for the chorus or bridges, but those verses. The way the melody drifts along and the light guitar changing under it....I just love that, and I think that's another example of Kurt's great feel for melody and accompanying chords...it just flows so well.

About a Girl has that in that section I mentioned above, but also I like the rest of the song too, unlike when Lithium changes. And I love that blend of the static part of two chords back and forth, and then all of a sudden it changes and takes you on this dynamic journey...and then youre back on the two chords. This song is just wonderfully laid out. And its bouncy and laid back but still somehow driven.

This might now be my favorite Nirvana song, and it sounds nothing like any of their other songs, or even anything like what the other big grunge bands were doing.

So my question is...why is the Unplugged version the one thats played all the time?

I listened to Silver because you mentioned it. That was interesting. I still like About a Girl a lot more.

I wish Bleach had like...only one more song after Negative Creep to end the album and make it a good one, and cut out anything else after lol

When Unplugged debuted on TV, most casual fans had never heard Bleach. After Kurt died, they released the Unplugged album, and the unplugged version of About a Girl was the lead single. It was a pretty, radio-friendly number that got rolled out right after his death, and it really clicked with people.
Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Its just interesting. like when I listened to AIC Unplugged, I had the opposite reaction. Sludge Factory I had never heard. I think the Unplugged version is actually better. The album track is good but I liked the Unplugged even more. On this one I was used to the original About a Girl so you'd think id be attached to it but as soon as I heard the album one I was like O__O

Listening to Nevermind but its hard when you have heard these songs so many times. Its possible that if I was in the 90s and turned this album on and heard Smells Like Teen Spirt -> In bloom -> Come As you Are -> Breed -> Lithium Id be like O__O this album is awesome.

But Ive heard these songs so many times that Im just like 'ok, next'

I never grow tired of Breed :bammer:

Incesticide is so well put together (unlike Lost Dogs) that when I was first getting into Nirvana as a kid I thought it was a proper album.

If you loved the poppiness of About A Girl you're gonna like Lounge Act :nice:

This might be by favorite song from Nevermind. If not it, than "Drain You".

One of their career highlights. I mostly prefer their abrasive and/or weird songs more than their "pop" numbers. So that whole back half of Incesticide, starting with Beeswax, really outshines the more radio-friendly front half for me.

I'm a big fan of the back-half of the album too. Aero Zeppelin is another great one.
