Is it the songwriting that does that or the guitar playing?
Personally, I think Prince was at his best as a guitar player when playing with the Revolution. Post Revolution, his guitar playing was much less prominent in his music. I say that only having followed him up to Crystal Ball.
I think Prince was great on guitar and could have been amazing but he didn't push his guitar playing as it didn't fit the music he played. He's a could have been a contender who rarely tried.
Totally agree with this. My biggest complaint usually after listening to Prince songs, is the lack of guitar.
I just watched the RAve Un2 the Year 2000 DVD, and the highlight, is his cover of Purple House (Red House from Hendrix) as its the one song where he really showed off his guitar playing.

I've seen a lot of you mention the song "I Could Never Take the Place Of Your Man" another one I always loved with a similar vibe, thats not on the greatest hits CDs, "When You Were Mine" I have a live version that has a great extended keyboard and guitar solo. Think it was from the live box set he put out years ago

I'm gonna finish what I started all those years ago and really get acquainted with Prince's music. He's going to be this year's Tom Waits for me. I'm going to start with the hits disc I have and the P 4 Stip mix I just downloaded. Once I've digested those, I'll start working through the full discography. One at a time.

Looking forward to this.

"P Control" is awesome. Why haven't I gotten into Prince before? There are so many big artists on my to-do list that I've been putting off. This year, I'm going to get into Prince, Neil Young, and The Rolling Stones. It's been long enough.

I've said this before, but I wish I had as pure and genuine love for anything as Lament has for music. It's amazing.

P Control is one of my favorites off The Gold Experience.

KD, listen to "The Cross". I think you're gonna hear some playing you respond to a bit more.

Been thinking recently where I would put 17 Days on Purple Rain. Kinda think it really belongs on there. Love that super fast reggae vibe on that one section.

Is it on the mix? I haven't had a chance to download it yet, so I will look forward to it.
